Bottom line is is you buy a Ford or GM car or truck, more of that money stays in the USA or Canada. And at least GM cars and trucks or just as good as others costing the same $$

GM has a 5 year warranty on most to now.

Also these other makes are non-union workers....go ahead and bitch about unions driving up the cost of things but if wasn't for the unions 50 years ago, you might be working 10-12 hour days with no over time pay and could get fired for no reason what so ever.

Unions have help all workers get more rights and better pay, union or not.

For years the auto industry in Canada has subsidized the US market. This has been controlled by the manufacturers and has been assisted by the currency. Now that the currency is basically par consumers are looking for the best value and are flowing over the border. The manufacturers are not sure what to do now as they have lost control to the consumer. So if consumers want to go over the border, that is their right. Don't play the patriatism card. The consumer in Canada has been screwed for years and now they are just getting some of their own back.

Best deals appear to be on used a couple of years old and the exotics.
Doing some research, great time for Porsche. There were numerous 1999/2000available in the very low $30K range. Homework must be done though.

The real issue the manufactures have with adjusting canadian prices for the new exchange rates is the massive devaluation of thier lease portfolio and the hit they would take on that. Like we should care what kind of hit Toyota, Honda or BMW take. It amazes me that there is not anywhere near the pressure on these companies that there should be to stop ripping canadian consumers off. The governemnt in this country is always involved in everything.....where are they now. Where's Flariety on this issue?

Magna would be able to do it. Some day they might, but right now they don't want to piss where they eat.

Hi Guys...

I bought a BMW... The CAR is covered 100% in all BMW dealerships. All you need to do is register with them... Its very low milage. So if i were in states, the oil changes and other complimentary services were also free. I tried 2 delearships here, and neither of them will honor extended servicing.

The purpose of this post is to show the big disparity between US and Canadian prices. The MRSP in Canada is REALLY high.. and THERE IS NOTHING to Justify this higher costs here. The delears are just greedy...

ITS INSANE... We have HIGHER taxes... 13% for everything we buy.... IN maryland its 5%. Higher income taxes, The SNOW, TAX, Cost of living here are all insane... Makes you question if living in canada is really worth it...

A 2000 Square Feet house costs 180K - 200K This is in the Urban districts... Visit http://www.city-data.com for COMPREHENSIVE details of every CITY in USA. Including Housing costs. Houston and Atlanta looks very attractive. Lots of Jobs, highly developed and no SNOW...

I love canada, the diversity and what it did for me. But in the end, Money is my God :) and I'd like to go where God leads :)

It is patriotic Canadians like you who help put Canadian auto workers, dealerships and many other spin off industries out of a work.
Good for you, you saved some money

Not unemployed yet?
Keep buying imports you will be
Considering the amount of goods we export to the US, and how much Hollywood contributes to our film industry (or used to), if Canadians only bought Canadian and Americans only bought American, it is us that would get hurt more.

A bit protectionist aren't we?

with all the cars made or assembled in Canada and sold in the US you need to take a step back and re-think your position..........
1/3 of the Brampton Chrysler plant's employees are being let go this year. Standup in front of all of them and state your position.

Since there is no Canadian car company they best we can do to help the Canadian autoworker is to buy American and not Japanese. The CAW will tell you that themselves.

I agree...

I agree. Canada has become just way TOO EXPENSIVE ... Taxes r too much.. Cost of liing is tooo much... Its not worth the $$ anymore.. Things from meals to cars to houses to bills.. The US is much cheaper...

I would definitely prefer buying a car from the US however.. dont u need to havea US license, a US address or residence etc to buy a car ??? Also, what gurantees the safe arrival of your car ?? Finally, how did u save 25,000 $ on a bmw.. which one was it ? Wat year ?? Congrats .. on ur purchse.. u did make a good decision...

Cars here in Canada r too expensive.. My car cost around 40,000 $ where in the US the same thing cost 31,000 INCLUSIVE... that was 2 yrs ago.. Unfortunately.. I had no choice but to buy from here..

^ i still prefer to live here.

though, i'll still buy my cars stateside if it is this easy and much more affordable.

if those guys in the CAW didn't require such high wages and expensive pentions and benefits, perhaps our cars could be cheaper. instead, we increase the Canadian prices, export some of the vehicles from our plants to the US and sell them for 27% cheaper. (made with the exact same labour, mind you)

the fact this happens is plain evidence of price fixing.

how does the CAW's spending have to do with our costs? For example, the JAPANESE Nissan 350Z is starting from 27k in the states, but starting from 49k in Canada. I dont think you can point fingers here. There must be something law-related and how the companies have to pay more in taxes when acquiring vehicles.

Robio u need to get your head outta your a$$. The fact is that people buy imports is because (1) status (2) they are better cars... Look at the reviews...you see Ford, GM and many other domestic cars at the top? Didn't think so...You see Japanese and German. Secondly if these auto workers are out of a job, then it is time to re-train and get into more profitable and sustainable work. Why should fellow Canadians subsidize sub-standard products?

I'll never understand Canadians who are so set on buying "domestic" cars. Last time I checked, we aren't the 51st state.

My dad's Indiana built POS '99 Ford Contour crapped the bed at 120k. He replaced it with a new Civic that's built in Allston, Ontario that will go 3 times that easily with less maintance costs.

Because nobody in the USA or Canada is buying Chrysler. There is a bias towards Japanese in both markets.
