guys (and badkat), look on the brightside, at least the leafs didn't sign rick dipietro. lol
even if mccabe didn't have a no trade agreement, no one would give the leafs much for him with that type of contract unless the leafs ate half the costs.
i haven't really watched the leafs this year since i'm a canucks fan but is everyone upset that mccabe is playing like shit or the fact that he is earning $6+ million per year??? would everyone be upset if he were being paid $3 mill a year???
there's a similar situation in vancouver regarding ryan kesler. since he's earning $1.9 mill everyone expects the kid to score. he isn't playing poorly. he's just not playing up to watch bobby clarke forced the canucks to pay him.

time to see mccabe isnt worth #1 def type money i seen it for years...and we see alot of boston i dont need to see what gill wil be ......terrible moves...you can wait all you want they will not pan-out.

Things could be worse......
First of all McCabe has the talent and can still have a great season.
Second, things could be worse, you could still have Ken Klee on defense.....Saturday night, with the Avalanche, he was on the ice for 6 of Montreal 8 goals.

This is so fuckin easy. Put yourself in JFJ shoes. They have young talent defencemen BUT not proven. None of them have played 1 NHL season yet!!! Whereas the young forwards, Stajan, Wellwood, Poni, Steen, have played more than >1 NHL seasons. So the young forwards are ahead of the young defencemen & can play NHL caliber hockey & you continue to let them grow. But as a manager with no contract extension you gotta show your bosses improved team performance so you sign free agent defencmen & get some stability on your defence which is your weakest area. And you slowly ease in 2 young defencemen for the future. Kubina has a proven track record and played with Kaberle on Czech Team. Of course Gill was too expensive. But Gill or Berg ? With cap limitations, JFJ used his money on defence & could not buy forwards.
