I have bad reception for my cell in the basement, what can I do?

I'm reading there are some signal boosters but they're like $400 -500 , I don't want to spend that kind of money. When people call they say I break up.

See if your phone has a feature called WiFi Calling. I know that Samsung phones with Telus use this feature for example. It uses the WiFi instead of the phone's resources to do phone calls.

Yup, wifi calling will help you here, assuming you have a decent wifi coverage in your basement.

If you do not have the Modem / Pod in the basement then your actual Wifi signal will be an issue unless there is a Router that runs through the Electrical wiring. Not surprising that the cellphone has a weak signal there. WhatsApp will not make a difference unless the Wifi signal in the basement is boosted with a Router.
