I don't mind parity, but goal scoring is down- again.

Contrary to the negative views coming out of the media- I like parity. Well some parts... I don't like how Canadian teams have to give millions of their profits to ill and failing American teams... why can't Colorado and Detroit and New York pay for that? that's just a minor issue though... i still like parity in the NHL. Although, these low scoring games get on my case.

hat tricks are down, teams that don't normally trap are trapping (Toronto against Buffalo), blowouts rarely occur... 1 goal games are up, This past Saturday was a perfect example. Six of the 11 games were decided by one goal, and only two of them by three or more.

It's gotta be tough for those that bet on hockey with ProLine or whatever... (probably was a good time for ole man Tocchet to close up shop...)

It isn't the CANADIAN Hockey League anymore than it is the AMERICAN Hockey League.

There are 6 Canadian teams, and as I last understood it, only two were profitable. Those other 4 teams are pretty damn happy to take shared revenue from the US teams that are profitable, believe me...

Not sure what most of this has to do with "goal scoring being down".

Profits? Parity? Proline? One-goal games.(5-4 is a one-goal game.)

Any stats as to number of actual goals being scored?

Oh yeah. I just calculated it from this morning's paper. For the sake of comparing apples to apples I decided to look at goals scored in a 60 minute game (pretty old-fashioned concept) so I eliminated single goals from overtime and shootouts. This also helps with historical comparisons when there were no pseudo-overtime games of 65 minutes.

5.41 goals per game.

I agree, it's fairly low. I think it was closer to 6.00 right after the lockout. Probably around 7.00 or more during the 80's, but not much lower than now during the dead puck 90's.

Playoffs could be brutally low scoring again. Even when the scoring goes up it's only because of power plays, not because of free flowing offensive minded hockey which is what made hockey the beautiful exciting game it used to be.
