I am getting tired of the rampant anti-israeli comments on this board

It's real easy for you to sit nice and safe at your computer and dismiss as insignificant the threat posed by the rockets fired by Hezbollah at Israeli citizens. I guaran-damn-tee that you would be singing a very different tune if those rockets were landing in your neighborhood, near your house, near your kids' school, in the park where they play... The terroroist apologists like you would have us believe that these are nothing more than token fire-crackers.
Do you even know how many Israeli citizens have died compared to Lebanese civilians? Not many and it sure as hell doesn´t justify the force Israel has used and the deaths that have resulted to neutralize the perceived ¨threat¨.

Oh - and I'm still waiting with bated breath for your solution to what Israel's "proportional response" should be when neighboring states - whose leadership is committed to their utter destruction - commits acts of war. (And here, I'm hoping you're not fool enough to believe that the Lebanese government is in charge of anything. It could hardly be clearer that Hezbollah runs the show).
You do realize Israel started the war right?

I'll let you answer the question with your own words.

The theat that the Lebanese civilians present to Israel is the same threat that the civilians of Dresden presented to the Allies. (of course, V2 rockets weren't being launched from the middle of Dresden so maybe there was less threat from these German cities)
Dresden was part of Germany which was a huge threat. I don´t really agree with the bombing of it but if you are trying to make the comparison it would be Germany to Lebanon not Dresden to Lebanon.

Heck of a lot of grass fires in Israel, though. That's gotta hurt.

:D

Seriously, I blame both sides equally. Yesterday's terrorists are today's politicians. And sometimes todays politicians are terrorists today, as well.

Here
Solitaria,

You are right and open minded.

Those of us who disgaree with you are wrong and closed minded.

You know and grasp the significance of history. We don't.

OK?

You win.

It is impossible to debate with someone that listens only to what s/he is saying and does not even attempt to deal with opposing opinions. So I won't waste my time and energy responding to your absurdities.

PM you are getting all passive aggressive and sarcastic because you can´t support your argument. You go on about what a threat Hezbollah poses to families in Israel yet you don´t even know how many Israeli civilians have died. You are arguing your bias without facts and it shows.

Hezbollah was trying to negotiate the release of Lebanese prisoners with the hostage taking of two soldiers. Israel got pissed and attacked Hezbollah in Lebanon thereby starting a war.

So Hezbollah crossing into Israel, attacking and killing Israeli troops and kidnapping others was not an act of war? I guess the international laws don't apply when it is Israel being attacked.

Sometimes, I think that the world is a pretty good place and that all one has to do is treat his fellow man with respect and understanding. Then I come to this section and read the hatred that flows from the pores of individuals and wonder if mankind is a suitable custodian of this earth.

I think that about sums it up for good ol' Solly. Aparently we (and Israel) simply don't understand that an armed incursion across their border to kill and capture their soldiers was merely "negotiation" by Hezbollah.

Now that's almost funny.

Israel is involved in hostage taking all the time. Hezbollah has done prisoner exchange with Israel before. You don´t understand that because you are ignorant of the situation.

Because you get mugged and don't fight back the first time doesn't stop you from carrying a gun incase it happens again. Learning from the past is the most important part of living through conflict.

This is the problem with people that are extremely pro-Israel. They are not armed with the facts.

When I said Israel has been involved in hostage taking before I meant they have been involved in doing the same thing Hezbollah did to their two soldiers except they have many more hostages that they have taken. The only difference is Israel calls its hostages terrorists instead of prisoners so that people like you who have a very superficial understanding of their own reality think that it is therefore somehow okay without further justification.

You keep trying to portray Israel as an innocent victim in all of this only reacting to provocation. Your bias is so evident and your denial is so profound.

Oh to have your depth of wisdom and knowledge, your sophisticated grasp of complex issues, and most of all, your balanced, equitable and utterly fair-minded approach (...which just happens to condemn every Israeli action as evil and wrap Hezbollah and Hammas in a cloak of justice and honour).

Dude, get over yourself already. What could be more transparent than branding every person with an opposing view as ignorant and un-informed? You're like that nutjob on the street corner loudly proclaiming everyone around him to be crazy. He (and you) could be right, but somehow I doubt it.

Okay - I'll save you the trouble - I am ill-informed, don't know the facts or uderstand the issues, blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda....

since when is terrorism acceptable? Since when is it in fashion to align with openly terrorist groups? Since when is is acceptable to hide among decent civilians and launch missles into the homes of innocent people and terrorize 6 million because no one knows where the next slaughter will take place. I am saddened by this - I thought we lived in a country of tolerance and underdstanding - read this story from another point of view

I agree, TERRORISM should be stop and is not acceptable! But I will not condome BOMBING innocent children and citizen. How would like the US to bomb Toronto just because they suspect that a terrorist is among us.

Prior to this outbreak, when was the last time Israel arrested someone in Lebanon? What is that? 6 years or more. Funny about that. Despite what Mel says, everything in the world isn't Israel's fault.

Is that official info? I haven't seen anything official on the exact location of the kidnapping. Its all vague or based on which side you're talking to. The UN only states the Israeli soldiers were kidnapped along the border. Unofficially, the locations were given as Zarit on the Israeli side and Aitaa al Chaab on the Lebanese side.
On a happier note. UN resolution 1701 and a ceasefire could go into effect Monday at 7am. :D

You have been looking in the mirror much too long and so you think you have seen someone else... "What you see is a perfect reflection of what you project."

As to your signature line -- I may be mistaken but I doubt it -- there is no doubt about it at all.

Here is my review of the thread so far. I think that this thread should be used as the script for the movie version of Frank Miller’s “Batman: The Dark Knight Returns”.

Perry Mason said:
The problem is that it is impossible to have a reasonable discussion on such a complex, emotional and historical subject when people like smyth, cyrus and mark pile on so much hatred, misinformation and disinformation.

I agree that there are at least three sides to every conflict. And each side has something positive and something negative that can be said about them.

I am a Jew. And I have always felt that the Palesitinan cause is a noble humanitarian cause. Unfortunately, it is a long journey from theory to practice.

It is a difficult problem. Too bad we can't have intelligent dialogue even on a board like this.

But, then, this is an escort review board... isn't it?

Perry, at this point, is like my dad, who thinks that comics are for kids. However, I had the same feeling about the thread, and I didn’t read it until it got to be several pages long, plus Perry comes around earlier than I did. I’m casting him as Superman.

On further reflection, the Perry above is the old Bruce Wayne who has given up being Batman, who has taken up drinking, and who doesn't want to discuss Dick Grayson or Jason Todd with Commissioner Gordon. For all subsequent posts, Perry is Superman.
