Seventy years ago today. It was a Friday afternoon, and I was 10. We lived close to Albion Rd and Islington Ave. I had a Telegram paper route, and even though it was raining began collecting as I was delivering. The rain got harder and about 5:30 I was soaked to the skin and decided to just finish delivering the rest.
At 7:30 I got home had supper and went to bed. I slept until about 11 am Saturday and when I got up, my brother and the rest of the neighborhood kids were talking about the creek behind our house that was 50 feet wide and 20 feet deep instead of its usual 10 feet wide and one foot deep. By the time I went to look, it was pretty much back to normal.
We were living on an island. The bridges across the Humber River at: Finch and Islington, Hwy 27 and Humber College, Martingrove and Finch, Kipling and Westhumber, Islington and Fordwich, Albion and Irwin, Albion and Weston Rd were all gone.
