Ya, someone posted that awhile ago. It's been around on the Internet.

One thing I've always wondered, though. Isn't there a problem with impersonating a police officer?

hhaha i hate how these these telemarketers change their tone as soon as I lie to them that I'm 16 yrs or so.

Its like them saying " you just wasted my 5 mins... I only want to talk to someone 18+"

Unfortunately, telemarketers are the front line, they get all the flak, they also are monitored to see how many sales etc they are making, if they arent up to standard, they are canned,,,, These poor people are trying to make a living, I hate telemarketers too, but we should be mad at the company thats doing the telemarketing, not the poor soul trying to sell you something, tough to do, I know.

In a very dark place
I like to ask them for their supervisors home number. When they say why, I mention that this will allow me to call him/her at home when they are having dinner.

Just some food for thought:

Is there any reason to have a land line anymore? How about just use your cell?

Want privacy? Turn the cell off; calls go to V/M. No more telemarketers.

My security system uses the land line. Also given that I don't make lots of long distance calls or use any of the "features" it's still cheaper to have a land line than any cellphone package I've seen to date. (yes, that's right I am one of the misguided people who don't see a need to own a cellphone :) )

I don't have a problem with telemarketers initially - the guy is just trying to do a job. I usually say no right at the beginning, but I get uppity when they want to know why I am not interested.

Having been a telemarketing person before...

I think it sad that are so many rip off and scammish type shit going on out there. It ruins the industry for those that have legit offers that in my experience people were actually happy I called. One of the main reasons I believe (some people being bothered about privacy issues and being disturbed at home during dinner or a football game aside) is that a lot of products/services etc sold by telemarketing firms is over-priced, scamish or in the grey market as they like to say - they give all telemarketing a bad name thus the bad taste in consumers mouths.

Bell, other phone companies, gov etc play up to the public with plans of establishing no call lists etc. The truth is that they will never abolish telemarketing mostly for reason above. There are a lot of legit and big name companies and charities etc that employs telemarketing as part of their marketing strategy. I have worked for many of them over the years. Bell Canada themselves have telemarkeing call centres, The Bay, Zellers, Crapytire, Sprint, all the banks etc. have telemarketing call centres. The last survey I read by a dependant survey company in regards to telemarketing they suggested that up to 50,000 people across Canada were directly or indirectly employed because of telemarkeing. Some make min wage. All the way up to some places I worked (legit places) were people doing well are making $50gs$plus. That's a lot of income and sales tax being paid. And also a lot of telephone lines being paid for. Not to mention manufacturing jobs to produce what ever it is they are selling. Post office and other shipping employees people etc.

That being said... when telemarketing people call me I don't feel bothered too much. If I’m in the middle of doing something maybe. But then again I could have chosen not to answer the phone. One regulation I agree with that I'm not sure but think is passed is that all telemarkeing firms cannot use ID blocking so when they call you can see who is calling. Anyway when I get calls I usually tell them "Hey know what I use to work where you work, no thanks." or if feeling mischievous and/or just don't want to waste their time or my time I tell them I'm on welfare and can't afford (I use that on dancers some times too, lol.) I'm on welfare always makes them say good-bye real quick.

Just my 2cents.

I just got a telemarketing call from Bell a couple of days ago. They wanted me to add more calling features. The guy said I could add x number of services at some special rate. I told him I don't want to pay any more than I do now and if I want more services, I'd switch companies and pay less to get them. He couldn't get me off the phone fast enough.
