How much is security going to cost for the Queen's visit?

lets also agree the minute Prince Charles becomes king, we become a republic, and be done with him. He is a pathetic excuse for a man, let alone a leader.
I disagree. But over and beyond that unless you have it in for Prince William as well, I wouldn't loose much sleep over the Prince of Wales as King. I suspect that his reign will likely be but a decade and a half, before William inherits the Throne.

Thoughtful post #19 Oldjones.

As I've read about the Bulganin and Malenkov automoble ride, the two of them were horrified since they never drove themselves and considered doing so around Moscow unaccompanied by phalanxes of KGB bodyguards foolhardy.

Thanks Aard, just imagine the G20 weekend—or any large pubic gathering—if we all conducted ourselves with the thoughtful dignity she personifies. Why, people might actually listen to each other.

That would be a decade and a half too long. William may not have as big a mouth as his father, or be as pompous, but he has not really accomplished anything either. I do not despise him like I despise Charles, but I don't really want to see him on stamps either.

Man oh man ... I can't believe I am reading all this from my fellow Canadian brothers! We used to be a colony and currently a member of the Commonwealth, except it! Embrace our past! Yes, she has no say in policy and politics and just sits there, but she really is a unifying force for a lot of people around the world regardless of race and creed. The British have done a lot of good all over the world and in this country. Without the Queen, or the Crown, we would loose a lot of our tradition and history. For one thing, our Westminister model would not exist without her because there would be no Crown. Without her, many things, the simplest things will have to change like "The Queen's Printer" and our money. And, boys and girls, if you look inside your passport, it says that you can find safety at a British Consulate overseas if a Canadian one does not exist. Secondly, I think when a new citizen is sworn in, they swear allegiance to the Crown and finally, if you are a civil servant, you also swear loyalty to the Crown. Her Highness is every where ... embrace her and be proud of our British and French and Native and American roots, it is part of who we are!

God Save The Queen!!!
If cost the Canadian government money like a few million for security ... tell her to pay up or pay for your own security. Stay home you old useless hag!!!! An screw God save the Queen!! I do not want a single penny of my tax dollar spend on the useless monarchy ( example Prince Charles wannabe become a Carmilla panties)

I personally believe the monarchy is somehow indirectly or directly responsible for Princess Diana death.

She comes from an era where leaders actually sometimes cared about the people they led. As opposed to the current era where leaders only care about being the one's in power to lead. She's a symbol, that's why people come to see her.
