I was under the impression that they do quite well, especialy those that are super hot and super creative.

A local restaurant to where I live has a very attractive waitress who I would consider to be a 9.5 out of 10 in the looks department. She could probably do well for herself in the conventional modelling business but for whatever reason she is working very hard for what is probably minimum wage plus tips.

Every time she serves my table I am tempted (at the risk of causing a scene and perhaps getting kicked out of the restaurant) to ask her if she has ever considered getting into the cam modeling business? Like anything, there’s a pretty big range. There are quite a few different platforms out there now, and they all take different cuts, so choice of platform can be important. A lot of it seems to be luck. I know a girl who did webcam stuff for a while. She said the really big money comes from “whales”. For example, she had one older guy who would constantly order custom videos from her, pay for private shows, and would sometimes give her huge tips (like, thousands of euros). She also had an amazon wish list set up and often had people buy her things she wanted.

It seems like the top girls are the ones who are able to attract the interest of a lot of big spenders. Those girls are making very, very good money. The less successful girls often aren’t making much, but either they just do it in their downtime when they’re not working as supplemental income, or they live somewhere where USD or Euros go a very long way (a huge number of these cam models are from Romania, Bulgaria, and Columbia, for example). Doesn’t seem like there’s too much downside to doing it if you don’t mind the exposure and are prepared to deal with the occasional customer who gets a little too attached.

Some make next to nothing, some make millions. I'm not kidding. Millions! Unlike conventional goods and services, there is no "set" price. A cam model makes her living exclusively through tips. Oftentimes this means she gets a tip for doing a specific thing, but sometimes tips are dropped merely to elicit a reaction. Such tips can be huge; we're talking thousands of dollars, sometimes tens of thousands (though that's rare). I don't know if the guys giving such ridiculous tips are just desperate for attention, simply like to throw around money, or something else, but it's insane.

My source is a former cam model who used to work out of a private studio, with several other models, from 2008 to 2016. In that span she claims she made $3.5 million before taxes, and considering I helped her with her taxes for several of those years, I can believe it! Most of the money came from whales. She once checked her history with a single user name to see that he had spent over $230,000 on her in a period of four years. Let that sink in a moment.

Cam modeling takes a certain kind of woman though. Not everyone's cut out for it. Obviously, you have to be willing to get naked on screen and perform sexual acts. Showing your face brings in a lot more money, but removes any semblance of privacy. You also have to be willing to engage with what is effectively a bunch of usernames, some of which are demanding, some of which are needy, and some of which are simply weird. And you have to do it for 6 - 8 hours straight while remaining upbeat and personable the entire time. That's not easy. But yes, if you have what it takes and are willing to do it, you can make boatloads of money.

I wouldn't recommend you mention it to that waitress though.

This is true in many, many cases. Like I said, many of these girls are from South America or Eastern Europe. It’s the same reason there are so many Romanian and Bulgarian girls in the windows in Amsterdam. A lot of people think they’re trafficked, but actually it’s very simply that the average annual salary and cost of living are very low in those countries, so they can work in the windows for a few years and make enough to live off of for the rest of their lives.

There are so many, only the top rated girls make a lot of money.
