I would think if you kept it in good condition and changed the oil and lubricated the machine as recommended, it should last 20 - 25 years. I was wondering if anyone has experience with a snow blower / lawn mover long term. After a snow storm, there are a lot of "Friend in need" types that sidle up to me when I am using my snow blower. These are the same people that barely talk to me usually, one guy moved in next door did not even acknowledge my existence until I got the snow blower. I tell people ( lie ) that snow blowers do not have car engines and the small engine will only last 10 years if you use it 15 - 20 hours a year. I tell them that some nebulous small engine repair guy told me this.
Never volunteer to clean snow for people, or you will open up a door that can never be closed. If they bug you in a snow storm, do it once but tell them that other people are bugging you and you do not want to do it for the whole street. I do clean the snow for an old widowed lady next door, and a guy that has a heart condition, but that's my limit.
