Why is this thread still alive. If you want HD TV, just get an "HD Cable Box" at Wal-Mart for $317.
not to hijack this discussion but how much of a techie do ya have to be to install one of these things? also can ya get HD over the internet? I got rid of my premium cable awhile back but being a huge sports fan it's a problem, I have to resort to sites that show games but sometimes they look like video from 1983.

OK, Rock, but what do you have to order from Cogeco?
I'm sorry, my service provider is Rogers (not Cogeco). Their options were to rent the box to me or I get my own box. I decided to get my own box.
it is quite easy for one tv, but if you want to feed more tv's and your computer tuner you need to amplify the signal
i assume you have a tv that already has an hd tuner in it. If it only has an analog tuner , you'll need a converter to change the signal from high def to regular def.do you mean through the use of an HDTV tuner that would work on a tv?
I was asking what service you are getting from Rogers, analog, digital or HD cable?
Thanks for the responses. I am still a bit confused: The lady at Cogeco said that she is sending a receiver to me for "basic" (non HD) cable.
It also looks to me that my TV already picks up HD channels as 53.35, 53.43 off the analog cable.
You don't need that box if you have a digital tuner in your TV. It's an excuse to charge you for "digital services" and it is their way of putting PPV and on demand in your lap.
The digital tuner in the TV can only decode the over the air HD signals. It won't allow you to register with the cable co's network.
