Because White Pride has been associated wrongly with the KKK....

Nothing wrong with being proud of your heritage, it's just that a negative stereotype has already been associated with that phrase.

Yes, "White Pride" has a negative connotation to people. If it is broken down a bit more by nation or group then it is usually more acceptable (ex. "Proud to be Brit/German/Scotsman/Slav" etc..)

I remember working with a guy who was a vociferously proud Native American. He use to go on and on about how white people had murdered and oppressed his people, and so on. Then one day he finds out he was adopted and it turns out he's actually ITALIAN! So you know I say it's all in our heads.

Notice you don't see a "Kiss Me I'm a Mongrel" button anywhere. Us mongrels are the true oppressed minority. We don't get no festivals, no cultural centers, no special newspapers, etc. If you're mixed blood your screwed man.

There's a difference between feeling secure, proud or superior when it comes to genetics we inherited through no doing of our own.

"White" people admit pride all the time and get no beef. Proud Italian, proud Irish, proud Greek, etc. You know even the word "Asian" is pretty broad. Ask a Korean, or Japaense or Chinese if they feel strongly connected to each other because they're "Asian". For that matter you take a country like China and you think there isn't some sort of prejudice between peoples from different provinces?

This actually holds true in places where asians are a minority. Then they band together against a "greater cause" so to speak. Otherwise you wouldn't see these various "Asian-American" groups.

true.... but asian-american youth and asian-canadian youth DO feel strongly connected evetho in their homeland in asia they dont like each other..

lots of asians american youth use the term asian pride and its not seen as racist.

proud to be irish/ irish pride does not sound racist, but white pride "sounds "racist.

i was strictly refering to white pride not irish pride, canadian pride etc.

bt you guys already answerd it, that its wrongly linked with the kkk.

anyways..it took an asian guy to make this thread..and tell yall how unfair it is...but if a white guy made this thread..ppl would call him a racist.

Yes, as you are figuring out, the world just doesn't make sense a lot of the time.

I am proud to say I'm Canadian.

Many of my brothers and sisters come from other parts of the world and I wish they too would say they were Canadian instead of Asian Canadian or Indo Asian Canadian etc.

This is Canada. If you were born here you are Canadian. Be proud of that.

It's long overdue that people take pride in being Canadian.

I think it's silly to say that you're proud of something you had no control over. You should be proud of your actions, your successes, your life in general. Why are people proud of the colour of their skin? should I be proud because I have dark hair. How about "I'm proud of the hair on my back"?

Seriously though i don't really know what "white" is supposed to mean. Really. What does it mean? Are Spanish people white? Are northern Irish? Portuguese? Are Jewish people white? How about Palestinians?

"White" is a loose word not associated with any particular racial group, really, that means or meant "colonial ruling class", and some groups that used not to be thought of as white now are thought of as white because they have improved their status in society. So, perhaps Jews and north Irish are now considered white, but 100 years ago they certainly weren't REALLY considered white.

Another interesting case is Russians, Romanians, etc., who definately have white skin, but it's odd if they go around calling themselves white because they're NOT part of the ruling class.

That ruling class connotation is why people have trouble with "white pride", whereas if they said "German pride", or "British pride" you'd think they were simply referring to their own culture, whatever it happens to be.

But if you say "white pride" you are really saying something like "I'm from the group of people that run this country and I'm proud of it", and that pisses off the people who aren't running the country. You're supposed to maintain the illusion that everyone is equally represented in society and not draw attention to the fact that people from a certain number of European countries hold down all the top jobs.
