Dude you live in an alternate reality. Stricter gun control will not make it that much harder for criminals to get guns. And it will take guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens.
Look at Toronto for instance:

From 2004-2014 Toronto averaged about 223 shootings per year.
From 2015-2022 that jumped to 407 per year. An 82.5% increase.
This despite stricter gun control measures in the latter period than the former.
How many criminals were shot by 'law abiding citizens' in Toronto?
Did they get charged with anything?

You said weird how anti drug the GOPee, is. And that Heroin ( an opioid) kills 25x more per year.

or did you not know Heroin both a drug and an opioid? So about that reading and comprehension comment…..
Are you on opiods ? What i said was that guns account for 25 times more deaths than heroin. You attempted to skew the numbers by adding in all opiate related deaths which include oxys and fentynol. You missed the point as usual and make no sense to anyone but yourself. Perhaps you should have some ESL training

if you are going to use total gun deaths, which includes all types of firearms and all manners ( murder/suicide/accident) you use total opioids. You compare one classification of this, with one classification of that. Or do you not understand how comparisons work and need to go back to school.

Be that as it may. I checked your faulty logic.
There were 9,000 Heroin deaths and 48,000 total gun deaths.

9,000 x 25 is 225,000

Go back to school. Learn how to multiply, do comparative analysis and fact check.

Overdose deaths involving heroin have trended down since 2016 with 9,173 deaths reported in 2021 (Figure 5).Jun 30, 2023

Typical, you lost the argument so try to change the terms retroactively from 'heroin' to 'opiates'.
Classic goal post move.

Took 250 years to make the problem. Will take minimum 50 to fix… if we start today. A long term plan.

Give me a reason a law abiding citizen would not pass the stress test to obtain a fire arm. If he has a no criminal record?

Listen. I Am not for banning guns. I used to own one. And we want the same thing. Get them out of the hands of gang bangers. And your “do nothing” approach only puts the guns in the hands of the gang bangers. It makes it real easy actually. It’s happening now. As we speak. And the politicians taking the bribes from gun lobby (who btw, are profiting massively by this system) are laughing all the way to the bank.

Tell me then oh wise one. What is the answer. Are you actually smart enough to form a plan to fix it, or do you just parrot the gun lobbies talking points?

Wanna know what my solution would be…. Dump a couple hundred cases of bullets designed to explode in the gun itself, in a few crime ridden neighbourhoods (and maybe Afghanistan for shits and giggles). Once gang bangers don’t trust the guns, maybe they stop shooting up shopping malls. And if a few cases do make there way to legal gun owners at the shooting range… and they lose a few fingers or eyes… well, thoughts and prayers.

If they decide one day to wake up and implement some basic gun controls.

1) suffering from depression
2) An ex wife or girlfriend says “no, they shouldn’t have one. I’m not comfortable.”

Just two of a handful we have here in Canada.

congratulations you were actually able to fact check a false argument. Now only if you could dismiss your school girl crush emotions and look at the things that Republicans say in the same logical manner. You first tried to use a straw man to skew the numbers in favour of what you want to believe but then you decided to actually look up the numbers and reported a discrepancy. Maybe there is hope for you yet? When you read things about Donnie just pretend its Biden that did those things and then you can understand where the adults are coming from.

Some hard facts for you.
1) you said guns kill 25x more than Heroin.
2) I provided a more accurate and fairer comparison. Said nothing (when do you think I saw the number of heroin deaths Einstein) just provided the numbers and links…but I’m the one trying to skew numbers and a narrative??????? Lmao.. :D yet more faulty logic.
3) You lost your shit
4) then made an ass of yourself
5) then I decided it was time to send you back to grade school. For math, analysis and fact checking lessons.
6) now your whining about it

Grow up, be an adult. That includes being man enough to know when you not only made mistakes , upto and including fact checking ( see also attempting to skew) you foolishly compounded that, then had to eat crow. It’s as simple as that Karen.

I don't advocate for a "do nothing" approach. My approach is this. If you wanna take guns out of the hands of gang bangers its easy - do more to get rid of the gang bangers. Stiffer sentences for gun crimes. The three strikes your out laws - bring them back. Making it harder, if not impossible, for an average law abiding citizen to own a gun will not solve the problem. Its not rocket science.

For Canada better enforcement at the border since many of these guns are coming in through the US would be helpful. Stiffer sentences to deter smugglers. In Toronto beef up the guns and gangs and drug task forces - they are a 1/3 below their historical levels despite the city growth. Bring back school resource officers in high risk neighborhoods. And for gods sakes stop treating violent criminals with kid gloves. Fuck early parole for repeat offenders.

Been tried. The motivation of stricter penalties has never worked. Jobs, decent wages, an opportunity reduce crime.
You see… when you have no real income, thug life seems like a real option. Sometimes the only option.

Depriving communities of real jobs, and then sending them to jail for being poor…. Well, how very conservative of you.

Inequality and stupid GOP policy on assault weapons and guns.
Thats the problem.

Lol…. You need an explanation as to why there is more gun crime in NY than Arkansas? Really? That is where you are taking this?
More population.

The rate of gun crime is presumably much higher in Arkansas than NY.
Certainly the rate of gun deaths is about 4 times higher, and I doubt that is entirely due to a much higher rate of suicide.

That's interesting.
Really clean jump at 2015.
What laws were passed right before that which can explain that?
When do the stricter gun laws come in and how do they intersect with these numbers?

just before 2015? None that I can think of anyways. Just after 2016. A small handful. Bail being one, and adjusting mandatory minimums from 5 years to 1, for many violent offenses. Notably many firearms offenses.

Either way, rates for violent crime have been going up, dramatically since 2014 ( less noticeable since 2007, which at the time if not mistaken was deemed the year of the gun) and ignored. Likewise the presence of street gangs. See also opioids and human trafficking.

What else has been going up since massive job losses, both prior, during and after 2008? Population and population density. Especially after 2012 ( coincidentally when house prices took off)……

What hasn’t gone up?
police budgets, nor likely ( don’t know for sure) the budget for the Ministry of Justice ( lawyers, courts etc) despite massive population growth ( fastest in North America)…Shit happens when voters decide to go into debt up to their eyeballs, and squeaky wheels. In the US, likely the opposite. Ying to yang.

Spending outside the gta, on that socioeconomic stuff. Jobs, economic disadvantages etc…See also the rust belt, many red states or poverty/inner cities.
