I have a prepaid BMO card that I use for online purchases, hotels and international travel. Never had a problem. I was even able to take cash advances with it in Europe and South America. You just have to make sure you have enough founds in it.

Chloë, do you have to provide your real name with the titanium Mastercard ?

Hi darling! Yes I do, my full name is printed on the MasterCard, which helps for verification processes at hotels and other places as well.

When you go to register, you register with a piece of government ID (I used my license), so that is what they have on file. I think it is the same information that they ask you when you go to send money overseas to a loved one.

They create a file for you and ship your card to the address provided. They give you a temporary card right away, but you dispose of that once you receive your personalized one with your name on it.

If you want to be discreet about what you're spending your money on make sure to sign up for online statements. Be aware that some credit cards out there only have paper statements. I recently signed up for an Amazon Visa card that does not have online statements at all.

Really great advice!

That was one of the reasons I chose my card. Zero paper trail. Everything is online or tracked through an app on my phone.

Just make sure to protect your online access or your phone with a strong password.

That sounds very much a hybrid card with features of a credit card rather than the typical nameless pre-paid card.

That in part may explain the differences people are describing.

Service fees are less than $10 a month. I pay $7 with mine. That's not a robbery in my opinion. No interest % fees, no contract fees or what have you. You should research it before assuming these places are crooked because that is definitely not the case, and I'm talking from extensive first hand experience.
$7 x 12 = $84 per year
Most premium credit cards start at around $99 (many have 1 year free)
So yeah the first poster was correct about robbery

Perhaps it matters what side of the border you are on. But as mentioned prepaid cards from all three of the big names: Visa, Mastercard, and Amex. Purchased at places such as Target, Walmart, and various brand Supermarkets have been refused by online merchants (not consistently but much of the time).
Because it is not a real credit card many can not be used in foreign countries (eg USA) so alot of online places will refuse
There are some prepay cards that are more accepted than others (must have some sort of deal) but no prepay works 100% of the time

Maybe I'm different, but this card's fees are cheaper than even my regular debit card fees. I don't think $84 dollars a year is a robbery, but then again I use my card very frequently for large and small purchases.

I was the original poster of the thread and soon I will be going to my bank CIBC and they have a secured

Card that you put up funds on deposit and it held in a GIC i. Believe

I will go tomorrow and keep all informed

But Chloee is 100 %. Correct paper trails are bad when you have statements coming to the house that

Could be opened by mistake...................dear did you stay at a hotel ..................das boot

Sorry to bring up this old thread Chloe. Is the Prepaid Mastercard from Cash Money still working for hotel check in AND incidental deposits?

Do you need to use the address that match your driver license?
