The average SP/escort/whore in Toronto is not a hooker, though. A hooker is someone who keeps tacking on additional costs until they empty your wallet. That's common in many places, but in Toronto the quoted rate per hour is usually observed with no extra charges. Hookers start out promising everything for a little money and start in with "oh but that's extra" until your wallet is empty.
Maybe some strippers or MPA's operate that way here, but even then, most don't.

This is interesting. Despite popular opinion, "hooker" is NOT derived from US Civil War General Joseph Hooker. And there is no factual basis for the (false) legends that General Hooker allowed prostitutes to infiltrate his brigade due to a lack of military discipline. The term "hooker" dates to 1845, well before the US Civil War.
It's not as bad as "whore," but not as upscale as "escort", "SP," or "courtesan" either. Generally, "hooker" invokes images of streetwalkers, but the term has become generic slang for any prostitute.

I know one Lady who refers to herself, in this biz, matter-of-factly, as a Hooker. She says, it is what it is.

Personally, I'm not crazy about using Prostitute or Whore.
