Why not use the term? It's semi endearing in fact.
David Letterman over the years has had a lot of jokes over what the "hookers" in times square are doing in response to this issue or that issue.

The average SP/escort/whore in Toronto is not a hooker, though. A hooker is someone who keeps tacking on additional costs until they empty your wallet. That's common in many places, but in Toronto the quoted rate per hour is usually observed with no extra charges. Hookers start out promising everything for a little money and start in with "oh but that's extra" until your wallet is empty.

Maybe some strippers or MPA's operate that way here, but even then, most don't.

This is interesting. Despite popular opinion, "hooker" is NOT derived from US Civil War General Joseph Hooker. And there is no factual basis for the (false) legends that General Hooker allowed prostitutes to infiltrate his brigade due to a lack of military discipline. The term "hooker" dates to 1845, well before the US Civil War.

It's not as bad as "whore," but not as upscale as "escort", "SP," or "courtesan" either. Generally, "hooker" invokes images of streetwalkers, but the term has become generic slang for any prostitute.

I know one Lady who refers to herself, in this biz, matter-of-factly, as a Hooker. She says, it is what it is.

ONLY acceptable words are sp, service provider, prostitute and/or escort.

The use of the words sp and service provider is fucking silly and those words are really ambiguous terms to define something that is very clear. If you are trying to describe a woman that sells sex for money you should use the proper terminology such as a prostitute, escort, hooker or whore.

The origin of the word Hooker (from Uncle John's Bathroom Reader):

"Although occasionally used before the Civil War, its widespread popularity can probably be traced to General Joseph Hooker, a Union soldier who was well-known for the liquor and whores in his camp. He was ultimately demoted, and Washington prostitutes were jokingly referred to as "Hooker's Division".

Given this origin, I personally don't have a problem with the word 'hooker'. But that's just me....;) I do, however, prefer SP or escort. I actually don't mind the term call girl either but considering my bookings are usually done via e-mail, it doesn't really make sense to call myself that, lol.

Your place!!
Personally, I'm not crazy about using Prostitute or Whore.
Sp, Escort, CallGirl, how about Adult Entertainer? Seem better to me.
