Don't say much,,be polite. If you get a ticket fight it. Its the insurance that hurts not the ticket

Behind you.
I have gotten 3 tickets in my life (so far). And each one has been dropped down.

The last ticket I had an expired tag on my plate and he let me go.

I am honest and cool, I just tell the cop why I was going so fast (either going with the flow, or going home from work etc, or going to see the wife {she is away at school}).

You should always call your insuracne company and find out what there policy is on tickets. My company is 2 tickets and your policy goes up. But they don't always pull your most current abstract. My friend at my insurance company (nice coincidence) said that they have not pulled mine since 99 (sweet). And that they usually don't update them without a reason accident etc.

So anyway find out what your insuracne companies policy.

Anys my short answer is that honesty is the only way to go.

Milkman: that's an urban myth.

Paradise Escort: when you say "dick" tickets, I assume you mean YOU were being a dick to the cop b/c there's no way you'd run into that many cops with an attitude unless you had an attitude yourself.

IME, I've always been polite and I've had all my tickets reduced or waived altogether. It's when you go in with the attitude that cops are dicks that you'll get nailed (and rightly so, IMO).

Are you absolutely sure about that?... I heard this not too long ago on CFRB 1010. However, I was quite busy at the time and missed the main topic of discussion... Possibly urban myths.. Anyhow, from the way the speaker was describing the legal reasons as to why it works... It seemed legit.

Ps.
Basically, I retained the procedure, but was to preoccupied to remember all the legal stuff word for word... That's why I was hoping, someone out there might be able to elaborate on that part of it.. or tell us what happened when they actually tried it.

First off, I've heard that on a variety of radio stations. Second, the myth is a holdover from the days before the system was computerized. Third, the Ministry must have a record of the money it sends out but it doesn't need to wait for you to cash it in - it just needs its own record should someone complain. Fourth, do you honestly believe the Ministry of Transportation woulnd't have plugged that hole long ago?

This explains why I am not a driver anymore.

Several years ago when I was a driver in Ottawa/Hull I had so many tickets I lost count. I never had time, energy or motivation to fight them cause I was on the road 12 to 14 to 16 hours a day. Note of interest though is most of them were in Quebec. Those SOBs hate us Canuks. I was doing 10 klicks over one day and ended up with over $500. worth of tickets. I got off the road and moved into the office shortly after that.

I'm not going to argue with you... I was just letting you know what I heard. I only wanted some more info and confirmation on that... If you've heard it on the stations and all... I guess it's a myth then... Thanks for your feedback.

You gotta be kidding..

I would sooner swallow broken glass than cooperate with any cop. These stormtroopers we call "police officers" continue to prove themselves to pathological liars and sociopaths. They will invent testimony, evidence or whatever else they need. When I do get pulled over, I shut my mouth, take my ticket and fight it in court.

Before anyone goes off on a handle that I am sterotyping all cops or that I must have had cop trouble, the answer is 'negative' to both. I have witnessed cops railroading innocent people, and people who cooperated. Always remember in any scenario of a 'good cop/ bad cop'.. there is no good cop!!!

If you think I'm full of it, try something funny with he cops in Peel Region...

Toronto, On
Times are a changin'

It used to be that people wouldn't fight the tickets. Not worth a day's work to go to court to save $100. Now everybody fights the tickets if the cop lowers it or not. Why lower it if you are going to fight it kind of attitude.

The other reason some cops won't drop tickets is because they like the OT money too much. If they write tons of tickets they get tons of court dates. If the court dates don't all get scheduled on their regular days, they go on off days and make a 4.5 hour minimum. They're just guys/girls with lives they have to support like you and I. Unfortunately they support their vices with our chequebooks.

Oh yeah, I believe honesty is the best policy, but like someone above said, they ask why they pulled you over (so you admit guilt). If you can, avoid answering that question.

and slow down... I love getting passed at 120 by cars only to pull up behind them at the off ramp 5 minutes later.
