It feels like the white guy was giving the basketball player shit, I hear something like "that's my wife", basketball player was probably rubbing against his wife on the train or sth.

Point is, don't pretend to hit someone even if you're a big guy, he definitely wasn't prepared for the counteroffensive.

The basketball player dealt with the big dude like a champ, but unfortunately he's facing manslaughter charge and probably have to spend a lot money defending himself and might serve time, not worth it. This is the problem in life, you can't just kill whoever that's the problem.

Self-defense or murder that's a very tricky question, if I'm baiting a guy into hit me, then I stab him to death, it's not self-defense. If a burglar is running away from my house, and I chase him down and beat him to death, it's not self-defense. So many scenarios, that's for the law to decide.

Manslaughter - 3 to 5 years. Mandatory before any chance of parole.

Street fights, gun fights etc always a losing proposition. You might think you're playing by Marques of Queensbury rules but he pulls a knife or someone gets suckered and hits head on concrete and dies.

It looked to me like the white guy was the aggressor he feigned punching the dude twice. Then the dude fought back white guy gets knocked down and falls on the tracks where he's struck and killed by an oncoming train. I'd say at most involuntary manslaughter for the black guy.

I think it was self-defence and an accident. I hope the guy is able to defend himself successfully and not go to jail. Unfortunate. But that white dude was being a bully.
What if the white dude was defending his lady's honour? What if the basketball player was Hilter in disguise?

Even then it was self-defence. The guy was physically assaulting him for whatever reason. If he is Hitler, call the cops. If he is harassing, and I did not see the wife nearby, which means she got free, then call the cops. Don't put your hands on someone unless it is self-defence and even if it is self-defence, the moment the threat is passed, move on.
The guy hit by the train was the aggressor. He was considerably larger, he threatened physical violence and he made the first physical contact. As far as the law is concerned, the motives for his actions are irrelevant.

I think the black guy will be charged, then plea-bargained down to something minor, or he will be acquitted of whatever the felony charge happens to be.

Turned out these 2 are both homeless people (both are probably mental), so I guess my wife theory was wrong.

I remember waiting for an escort in downtown, in the park near the condo, there are many tents, one homeless asshole came back riding a bicycle carrying some junk cardboard box, he immediately started yelling obscenities at another homeless lady, who called him an asshole. It's bad shit.

Does he have the intent to hurt you? Yes - you can see he threatens to punch
Does he have the means? Yes - he is bigger than you.
Does he have the opportunity? Yes he is up close and personal.
Those are the 3 questions that allow you to use force to stop the threat.

Its not your fault that the guy decided to get in your face 1 metre from the edge of a subway track.

He was the one backed against the wall. I’m not sure why no one tried to stop it (though I do in part). I believe the people filming could have even started to play loud music or say something to get them out of the zone of aggression. The man against the wall could have tried to slide to the left but perhaps the aggressor would have grabbed him and then thrown him to the tracks. Overall , I wish this wasn’t posted. This makes me sick. I can’t unsee the look in both of their faces

I wish he had thrown him the other way but I know when one is truly afraid they don’t necessarily think of that and you go with the movement and direction you’re most strong with (I’m assuming it’s related to if you’re right or left handed maybe ?) i know that one had to ask these questions you posted very quickly to save themselves if it’s a true fight or flight scenario. I don’t know if either were impaired which of course would have affected their ability to be “rational”. This must have been so traumatizing for everyone involved. I pray for all of them to forget as best they can and that everyone can try to recognize when being a bystander can be just as bad

Unfortunate, but the guy was just trying to build space between himself and the attacker. No point in bringing charges.
He and his lawyer are going to be very thankful for that video. The days of people intervening in fights seems to be fading as too many times the do gooders get hurt. Remember Elmer the Safety Elephant, don't play near train tracks.

Only an idiot threatens a punch, or points a loaded gun at someone without shooting. Passive aggression has no place in a fight.
