WELL, that may be true but I am of the opinion that direct connections are always better than those going through any type of "switch". IMHO it is better to connect the HDMI cables from the player directly to the back of the monitor instead of going through the av amp. If you have a TV that only has 1 hdmi input and have two source devices then you may be forced to go through the amp but considering this is the poster's first home theatre, I doubt he'll have more than one HDMI source.

One thing I learned recently tho is that to obtain HD, I always thought that the only way to get it was to use and HDMI cable. Not so. I recently switched to rogers cable and the PVR puts out HD through the component video cables as well as the HDMI cable. Goes to show you you learn something everyday!
