Hockey Hall of Fame

Given the recent retirements of Doug Gilmour and Mike Ricther, I'm wondering if people feel that these two are Hall of Fame bound. Given prevailing HHOF standards, I think they're a lock. Then again, I always felt the HHOF standards are far too lax. I mean, come on.... Clark Gillies, Guy Lapointe, Bob Gainy.... while solid hockey players in their day, do these guys really deserve to be in a hall of fame???

Now here's a question. If the HHOF adopted Baseball Hall of Fame standards for induction, would Gilmour and/or Richter make it? I say they are both worthy of being nominated, but would not be inducted if Cooperstown standards were adopted.

Agreed.

Hockey's inductees don't have to meet the same standards and as a result the honour does not carry the same prestige.

If the HHOF had baseball's standards Gilmour & Richter would not get in.

Furthermore, the membership would be cut in half.

I think we should start something like the Guy Lapointe Award for the least deserving member in the HHOF. My nominee would be Bernie Federko!!?? What's he doing in there?

Here's a question. Little Hitler (Bettman) has decreed no player will wear #99 again. Fair enough, but how much of an insult to the history of the NHL is it to see Brad Brown of the Wild, Mark Eaton of the Preds, or Aaron Ward of the Hurricanes wearing #4? Or even fine players such as Kariya or Modano wearing #9?
Baseball is the only major North American team sport that shows proper respect for the traditions of the game, at least in this regard. Hockey could put the Hall of fame in my bathroom if only the truly deserving were honored. BTW, I have a really big bathroom!
