Somebody looking for a payday.

(Shit, I hope mixed gender touch football is not sexual assault because some of those women intentionally went for the privates.)

"On Friday, TSN reported that they have independently verified, with three different sources, reports of a video that captured the 2003 incident. The video, described as being six or seven minutes long, allegedly depicts a player — speaking to an unseen person operating a camera — saying viewers were about to see “a f--king lamb roast,” according to the three sources.

The camera is then carried into a different room and the video shows roughly half a dozen players taking turns sexually assaulting a woman who was non-responsive and lying face up on a pool table, according to the source."

What a fucking hypocrite he is.
There's a lot of truth to that statement. Mr. Groper, Mr. Blackface, Mr. Ethics Breacher or whatever you want to call him, is one to talk...

I don't know exactly what happened that night, but I'd like to know more about this alleged video of her saying the encounter was entirely consensual. Is it not possible she wanted to get fucked by a bunch of super physically fit, hot guys that night?

Q. When does a consensual sex party/gang bang become sexual assault?
A. When there's a chance you could walk away with a million dollars!

Something smells fishy here...

Maybe she was interested in sex with the one guy, not eight…

I see a lot of folks here calling Trudeau a hypocrite for slamming Hockey Canada. You have a point, but as an organization that gets federal taxpayer dollars, the fact that it has a slush fund to pay for these types of events is deeply troubling. Even if the cash is siphoned off from registration fees, that is still horrible. It implies that they've paid out of pocket many times, and expected to in the future. Trudeau is right to call the out on it.

Now, I'm no legal scholar, but I do wonder what Hockey Canada's culpability would be for this type of thing. I mean, if most of the players were under 18, is HC in trouble for not providing enough adult supervision to ensure stuff like this didn't happen? I mean, I assume there was probably some under-age drinking and other things. Did HC step in to prevent its name from being trashed by the potential of scandal? Are we going to see more young women come forward to accuse other players/teams?

It sort of reminds me of what you used to see in the US with the "star" football player or team. They would get away with nearly anything — rape, underage drinking, drunk driving, assault, the list goes on. The public looked the other way, and the victims were shammed or forced to shut up.

Has HC said how often they've paid out these types of settlements, because this is obviously not the first time, but maybe the first time they've been caught...

As for the 2003 team allegations, it amuses me the number of Leafs that were on that team, both players the team owned the rights to, or would later play for them...

Waiting for the shoe to drop on the women hockey and soccer teams. Ok, maybe nothing to see there.

From the CTV News article:

The Canadian Press was first to report Monday that Hockey Canada has maintained the fund -- which comes from membership fees collected across the country -- to pay for uninsured liabilities, including sexual abuse claims.

The detail was included in a July 2021 affidavit sworn by Glen McCurdie, who was then Hockey Canada's vice-president of insurance and risk management, as part of a lawsuit launched by an injured player in Ontario.

"Hockey Canada maintains a reserve in a segregated account to pay for any such uninsured liabilities as they arise," said McCurdie's affidavit, which goes on to state "uninsured liabilities include potential claims for historical sexual abuse."

Hockey Canada confirmed in a statement Tuesday it has a so-called "National Equity Fund" to cover a "broad range of expenses related to safety, wellness and equity initiatives."

Hockey Canada added the fund was "established in a manner consistent with reserve funds maintained by other large national organizations."

In other words, Hockey Canada is no different than other organizations in terms of having a reserve fund. I was speaking with a corporate lawyer about this on the weekend. He said they're very common but you typically never hear of a payout. The difference here, is that we were made aware of the details.

From what we know so far you are dead correct.

In this whole story I think it's Hockey Canada that really fucked up.

My understanding is that said ''slush fund'' was created after fallout of the Graham James fiasco.

HC's legal team determined that funds should be set aside in the event of any past or future transgressions came to light. And the resultant lawsuits that would come.

So they weren't caught flat footed again. It makes sense when you think of it.

It's not like they put money aside because they were expecting problems. They just didn't know what could come out of the woodwork from the past and wanted to be prepared for the eventuality of something that might happen in the future. Just good business really.

Trudeau is being his best virtue signaling self again. It's won him two elections why would he act any different now.

I really don't think anything will come of this.
