I worked in Amsterdam for about year in 2000-2001. I only patronized the Red Light District, and experienced very variable situations. I finally found a fairly regular young lady who suited me, and mainly stayed with her.
However, there is (or was) a very upscale place called Yab Yum. It's on the Singel canal a bit west of the main downtown area. My understanding is that the service and quality there is outstanding, but that a cost of $1,000+ USD per night would be considered fairly normal. Since then they've converted away from the Dutch guilder to euros, which probably caused some additional inflation.
From what I've heard, if you can afford it, this is definitely THE place to go in A'dam.

Amsterdam is real daunting as the alleys with girls in the window go on forever and there is so much choice. having said that though, it all costs about the same and you want to negotiate a deal like you would with a girl in TO. Do not go for the $50 Euro quickie as you will be unhappy and they do lots of upselling. Do ask the girl to quote a full service half hour and hour rate. You will find both to be worth the extra money. Most want about 100-125 Euro for the half hour and 150-200 for the whole hour. The alleys around Monnikenstraat are always my favorites.
