I saw someone mention this on a post.

Is it really necessary do you think? Are the agencies discreet enough?

And how do I get one that wouldn't be in my name, anyway?

Well I am an independent not an agency...

But I have a "work phone". I keep contact of people that ask me to do so, so I know it's them when they call or text.
I also keep numbers that are blacklisted be it for waste of time, that no show on me, offer drugs and the like.
I would personally never text or call someone without their prior consent. I have a few gents that gave me free range on texting so sometime they receive dirty pics ;) (you know who you are :D)
I don't even reply to text if it has been more than one hour or so.

You can get a cheap pay as you go phone at Walt-Mart or petro-Canada. Some are around 30$ or so and required less than a 10$ credit each month.
You don't need to give real info to active it

Get a good data plan and install fongo. Pay for text messages if you need to. When not using it, just uninstall. Discreet, effective and no stupid extra phone to explain.

Public Mobile.

Give them any name you want and the address of the store as your actual address.

$25.00 monthly for unlimited text and calls. Pay strictly cash and there is no paper trail ever to come back to you.

Discard phone whenever you wish.

No reason to have a second phone beyond paranoia
Easy enough to put a password on your phone and I'm sure most escorts would not message you saying who they were if a female picks up (thats more what a guy having a married affair needs to keep secret)

If you insist on second phone number there are many voip solutions that can be turned off during certain times so even if your phone is found there is nothing to see

Oh and also, if you DO have a second phone what exactly do you think anyone you know (wife, friends etc) is going to think the day they see that phone somewhere (maybe left in car charging) or worse when it is hidden in the house and actually rings or vibrates

Get and Android phone and put Google Voice on it. This way you have two phones in one! One for personal use and one for the hobby.....;)

Fongo is the same idea but gives you a toronto number, gv only gives US numbers though it does include txt msg for free. Canadians also need to jump through a proxy to sign up for gv.

Some of these options don't solve the problem that people are concerned about.

Read the Lisi warrant ITO. Lots of people's personal info released in an embarrassing manner. Just because they had incidental but embarrassing contact with people under surveillance.

Get a prepaid phone purchased with cash using a pseudonym. Cheapest option is the $100 per year plan. And if you hang out with people you know are sketchy then change phone numbers regularly.

I of course having nothing to hide from anyone so I don't bother. But if I was married to someone who didn't know what I was like or employed by a conservative organization then I would definitely get a "burner" phone.

I've got an old flip-phone from back-in-the-day in the glove compartment of my car that I strictly use as a "hobby phone"....its juiced on an annual $100 PPD Virgin Mobile card....unlimited txt, unlimited evenings & weekend calling.

I've told my SO its an "emergency phone"...just in case I misplace my iPhone, or the Rogers network is down - lol

Remember that any texts found on your phone (personal or hobby) ARE easy for your SO to figure out.

Even if the SP texts you something as simple as a single word ("yes", "no", etc.) you can easily get busted.

that text came from 416-xxx-xxxx and your SO can easily google that number if they see the text on your phone.. BUSTED when they see an SP ad using that phone number!

Try to explain why an SP texted you the word "yes". If your wife sees that on your phone and googles it, the next thing she'll likely do is text that number back and start a conversation (SP thinks it's you). If the SP texts something like "haven't seen you in so long, hun" or "you want me to wear the high heels again?" and your goose is cooked....

So either have a WELL hidden separate hobby phone, or well hidden app (ie. Google Voice) on your main phone. Make SURE your SO can't see any incoming texts, even if there is no text history or saved info on the phone.

The best way to hide fongo is to UNINSTALL when you don't need it. Takes twenty seconds reinstall and log back in, but when it is uninstalled it would tell forensic filesystem analysis to find traces of it.

And when uninstalled it won't ring.

That's too bad because GV works great in the US for both text and calls, plus for text and calls made to Canada.

Any recommendations on a pre-paid phone? Any experience with those from Petro-Canada?

Boeing makes 'self-destruct' top secret smartphone

A smartphone designed for handling top secret communications has been developed by Boeing. If the phone is tampered with, it automatically deletes any data and renders itself inoperable. Better known for its aeroplanes, the firm said it needed to help organisations get "trusted access to data to accomplish their missions".

The device, named Black, joins a growing range of high-security smartphones entering the market. At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, a similarly-titled Blackphone was announced, aimed more at businesses and consumers worried about private data.

Boeing already provides secure communications for US government officials - including the president. Boeing's Black is not intended for mainstream use - and does not yet have a price or release date.

The device took 36 months to produce, the company said, and has drawn on expertise from recent acquisitions of companies specialising in mobile technologies.

Product specifications posted on Boeing's website state that the device contains two SIM cards to allow switching between government and commercial networks. The smartphone runs a heavily-customised version of Google's Android operating system and Boeing has added its own branded security apps.

But where Black goes beyond typical mobile security is in physical enhancements to the hardware itself. "There are no serviceable parts on Boeing's Black phone and any attempted servicing or replacing of parts would destroy the product," the company exp***********d in documents sent to the Federal Communications Commission.

"The Boeing Black phone is manufactured as a sealed device both with [extremely strong glue] epoxy around the casing and with screws, the heads of which are covered with tamper-proof covering to identify attempted disassembly. Any attempt to break open the casing of the device would trigger functions that would delete the data and software contained within the device and make the device inoperable."

Furthermore, the phone's hardware can be expanded to include biometric sensors, satellite receivers or solar panels.

interesting thread as I was wondering about this very topic myself. I'm eligible for a upgrade as my plan has expires. I was thinking of getting a new phone and selling my old one. Now I'm thinking, maybe I should keep my old one, pay for a new number, and just get some type of pay as you go plan. It would be a double win cause I started to think I should keep my old phone as a backup anyway. That way if anything happens to my new phone I don't have to drop 600 bones on a new one.
