While many of you instantly had a gag reflex after reading this headline, accept the reality that soon you may be vomiting on a daily basis for eight-straight years. Yes, it is true; Hillary Clinton is the Democrat Party nominee and will almost inevitably be the next President of the United States. I understand that you may have heard that Barack Obama and John Edwards are fighting the good fight. In reality this 2008 presidential race has been over for a long time.
In fact, the only reason why there has been continuous coverage of the political “competition,” is because no political analyst will publicly pronounce that Hillary Clinton is the victor this early. The analysts have to pretend that there is really something to talk about, that there is justification for this continued buzz. However, imagine if one day Anderson Cooper, at CNN News, told us today that Hillary Clinton won the Primaries already. CNN might as well kick their ratings over to Fox News, if it were even possible for CNN News to lose more viewers to Fox. It would the equivalent of putting themselves out of business.
Not only is the media not going to tell you that the race is over, but they will actively attempt to boost Hilary Clinton’s popularity by creating the illusion that she is really the underdog. Does anyone really believe that Hilary Clinton is not able to handle the lightweights of Obama and Edwards? People act like the Clintons never ran a political race before.
Once Clinton gets out of the Primaries, the next major question is going to be who can defeat her. Right now there are only two candidates who can in my opinion. Those two candidates are Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson. Personally, I think Mitt Romney would make a fine President, but I just do not think the majority of the Country outside of the Republican Party will vote for him. While Rudy and Fred Thompson have some obstacles to overcome, they both have greater name recognition than Romney. In the age of Paris Hilton and Anna Nicole Smith, sometimes name recognition is all you really need.
With that being said, once Hillary makes it out of the primaries, expect endless news headlines similar to this, “Will We Succeed in Electing Our First Woman President?” It is the template the mainstream media would just love to cover. “A woman who took a back seat to her husband for so many years is now as close as any woman has ever come to being the first female President of the United States.” Just expect it; it is what Rudy or Fred Thompson will have to go up against.
Lastly, for those of you who are screaming that Hillary Clinton is an abject failure at everything she has ever done, it does not matter in the slightest. Ignorant voters outnumber informed voters by about 10 to 1; issues are not going to matter one bit this time around. No matter who makes it out of the Republican primary, the race will be typecast as a fictitious female underdog versus a member of George W. Bush’s party. There’s nothing we can do about it and Hilary Clinton’s record of failures will not even enter the public debate. If I were a smart investor, I think it would be a good time to invest in Proctor & Gamble, they make Pepto-Bismol.
