You don't know what happened.

From what I've read the driver of the truck did not flee the accident site and is co-operating with police.

It's a tragedy for sure, but you don't know if it's the driver's fault or the young girl's fault.

Wait for the cops to do their job.

Oh, and if the guy was making a left, he's not going to be speeding in a dump truck.

First day of school?!
These assholes have no disregard for life, they don't watch the road, drive recklessly, speeds are over posted???

I always see these asswipe dump trucks doing 80-120KMH on the street
Perhaps you mean 'no regard'.

As stated above, we don't know what happened yet.

It's possible the crosswalk was clear when he began his turn, and the girl decided to make a run across.
I don't know. You don't know.

How about we let the investigation run its course before assigning blame?

definitely a very sad story. with all the bad drivers that drop their kids off at schools every day, you know who i mean, i'm surprised more children aren't hit. a simple fix based on this accident would be to erect "No Trucks" signs in all school zones. that would be simple common sense. Doing this is unrelated to whether this incident was caused by the driver or the child or a combination. the risk is why some schools prohibit parents from driving onto school property to drop off their kids.

I agree with you fully, but it's interesting to read it here. If only more people advocated this same treatment in the Forcillo thread, or any other report of alleged police misconduct. But I guess it's always different when it's a "dirty, corrupt, violent pig", right?

"Bolton phoned Mayor Rob Ford to discuss the child’s death and wants city council to explore whether trucks should be banned from school zones during certain hours such as 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., which some areas have adopted."

I would support this suggestion. I think part of the problem is that truck drivers simply can't see little kids around their trucks, especially while turning.

The girl was hit at a time as early as around 7:50 am which is unusually
early as that was more than one hour before class commenced I believe.
I think enforcing an schedule like 6:00am to 7:30am for garbage trucks operating in a school zone is acceptable. Garbage needs to be collected
in the vicinity of schools.

Regardless of who is at fault, this is at least the 4th death caused by a truck in recent months.
1) TTC passenger killed by truck.
2) 5 year old kid killed by garbage truck.
3) Cyclist (Jenna Morrison?) killed by truck.
4) 14 year old student killed by truck.

Then there are the stories of wheels flying off trucks.

Or, you know, when there is video footage of the motherfucker pumping 9 slugs into the guy, 6 of which were fired when he was down. But yeah, exactly the same and a very relevant point.

Oh, did they finally release how many bullets hit the guy?

What's a bullet or two here or there when you are emptying pretty much the entire clip into some kid lying on the streetcar floor?
You were there and know exactly what happened?

There was a story a while back where a woman walked under a truck on Front and Spadina while looking at her phone. Another person walked in front of a moving street car with their head phones on. Pedestrians need to pay attention as well.

I hated making the left from northbound Young onto westbound Front. I'd have the advance left turn green light and pedestrians would start crossing north/south on the west side of Young. I'd honk and someone would usually flip me the bird.

well said

just yesterday i saw a young woman walking - her head down as she played with her iphone, wearing headphones, started to cross against a red. a car was turning (with a green light) and just stopped short of hitting her.

It could be the truck's fault, but young pedestrians dont seem aware of the dangers of crossing a street or just assume everyone will get out of their way.

that would not be possible unless you want to group all the schools into one area first.

your second point about not being able to see the kids- big trucks have blind spots- kids have to be taught to be careful.

A lot more pedestrians out there right now, texting, talking on cell phones, listening to music with headphones and not paying attention to pedestrian signals. Everybody, please drive with caution to avoid hitting these idiots.
There, I fixed your post!

As for the original topic, I think we need to find out who did what before we jump to conclusions. Tragic incident none the less. RIP
