What's with The Father of Linux these last few years? He has nothing to contribute to post pc era, eh? Maybe he now feels dumber than even 1st day he copied ... err ... invented Linux. ROFLMAO
Bad troll is bad.
Yeah, Linux has lost if you ignore Android, the internet and most cloud service back-end software, servers, satellite control systems, routers and other networking hardware, and it's applications in diverse hardware ranging digital picture frames, TV's, and cars. Oh, and the number of active Linux Distributions is still growing as well. I'm not talking about niche deployments here-- many of these areas are areas where things booting the Linux Kernel are the largest player in that space.
You could argue that the GNU is in decline with Google tending to avoid GNU software in their userland, but that's a different argument. (And, err, somewhat overwrought as most firms can't afford to replicate the GNU userland, and may not want to be bound to a Google driven platform.)
Indeed, as the predominance of crapplets the suck data from web servers grows, the stronger Linux gets both as a server of that data and the easiest consumer of it. The more a device resembles and appliance the better the fit Linux will be for it as fixed hardware only needs to get supported once.
