Help BBC nominate the greatest American ... (ends June 9)

Please follow this link for your chance to help the British Broadcasting Corporation nominate the "Greatest American" ...

It's ironic for me being Canadian, to participate in this, but hey ... I am pro-American. Unfortunately many of you don't believe that I am ... hehehe ...

Anyway, I have much respect for the BBC and learn alot from their articles. This is a chance for me to pay them back by posting this link here ...

I am sure many of you would enjoy this as well, since so many of us are interested in politics, American politics and America's place in the world ...

Here is the link:

Greatest American

For spreading joy, and jazz, to the whole world, and proving that America has one great art form: Louis Armstrong.

though some here might thin me anti-american, i made a serious nomination that i will share:

benjamin franklin

anyone who reads his autobiography or knows what he accomplished has to be impressed by the scope of what he did... here is someone who had a profound effect on the founding of his country, was an important scientific figure, a success at bussiness and in the arts (writing and publishing), was a diplomat, understood the importance of cities and civic institutions (unlike jefferson) and who is the protype for the modern american. no other figure in american hostory has the same breadth of influence in so many areas, and remains someone with whom contemporary people can still identify.

Says something

about the American history knowledge of the average BBC consumer!

John Adams would have been my choice.

Homer J. Simpson, the Fiction Character is the greatest American.

Hugh M. Hefner. he he :)

No, really ... I really do think Mr. Simpson is legit.

It's people like him who make America what it is ... the average dude with a family, kids, a job and some good friends. The beauty of the Simpson's lies in the fact that not all of the stories are happy stories. Sometimes the Simpson win prizes and sometimes they go bankrupt ...

Hell, do you think the average American is like Jerry who gets laid every fucking night with a different girl and lives in the more expensive condos of New York and does not even have a "regular" job to bring in flow? Or like the people in "Friends" where the whole setting is so bourgeous ... ?!?!?!

So personally, I really do think Homer is a great character to represent America and to be the greatest American. Besides, I think the creators named Homer "Homer" for a reason ... maybe there is a relationship between Homer Simpson and the Greek philosopher Homer?
