The point I was trying to make was that there is no designation "Executive Chef", where you put in the needed hours and get tested. There are no papers you would receive for this title as you would Chef de Cuisine or Master Chef. Anyone opening a restaurant can give himself the title "Executive Chef"!thompo69 said:There is absolutely no way that any of these people could go straight into an executive chef role (I actually disagree with your assessment of the title), and the culinary skills are a secondary reason. More importantly not a single one of these people has any experience with the business side of things, yet you expect me to believe that they'll be handling product orders and inventory, staffing, and other kitchen-related business matters? I doubt it, and if they aren't doing that, then they certainly aren't an executive chef.
There is the CEC designation, which is the Certified Executive Chef, where you do get tested. The majority of those who call themselves "Executive Chefs", however are not certified.
