Do higher priced HDMI cables such as "monster" or "rocketfish" offer better picture and sound quality compared to the lower priced cables? Or does it not really matter. Are they all made out of the same quality?

If you search the web you'll find someone did some benchmarking of different brands of cables, and monoprice's cables scored as high as the monster cables.

It also turned out in that benchmarking that the differences found were mostly theoretical and that practically any cable will deliver a good picture in ordinary use. The reviewer was able to find differences in signal quality, but no observable difference in picture quality.

Its a digital signal, it works or it does not work at all no in between. Its not like an analog signal that looses quality over distance or cheap wire.

Buy a $10 on off the net, or check out Costco

I just couldn't justify spending $100 bucks on a set of cables

Your right, check out that web site Fuji posted, thats where you will find the best price. If you need it right away you can try Costco its a bit cheaper, anal rape with lube.

I can add that I purchased a 35 foot HDMI cable and a 35 foot optical cable from monoprice. They arrived after about a week and work great. Nice long cables that allowed me to run HDMI to my TV, and digital audio to my stereo system, from my computer workstation over on the other side of the room. That way I can play music and video off my PC onto my stereo and my TV, located on the opposite side of the room. Quite happy with monoprice, and their price is unbeatable.

At those prices, looks like I will be purchasing a wall mount from them as well. I just can seem to find their shipping rates. What do they normally charge for shipping?

I can't remember, but it was reasonable. I think if you go through the checkout process it'll calculate it for you.

Shipping a wall mount from Monoprice is expensive because they ship from the US, and the mounts are heavy. Check out Costco or NCIX for local deals on wall mounts.

If you are looking to extend your Blu-ray capability to 3D down the road then consider the 1.4a format. HDMI 1.4a has defined mandatory 3D formats for broadcast, game, and movie content.

Monster Cables HIGHLY overpriced. Just get any no name cable with the same specs and you'll be fine.
To give you an idea, Monster Cables cost employees at Shit Buy and Future Shit about 75% less than what they sell at for regular people like you and I.
RocketFish are their house brand and sell for 65% less for their employees as well.

Monoprice rocks for sure.

I bought mine from monoprice.. even with shipping (it was a big order mind you) it was still way cheaper than anything I could get here.

I just checked out the shipping on the wall mount for their Adjustable Tilting/Swiveling Wall Mount Bracket for LCD Plasma (Max 175Lbs, 32~60inch) and it was $62.40. More then the cost of the mount. I think I'll pass on that then as I also found one at factorydirect.ca for $120 (full motion)

I would avoid factorydirect. Their return/exchange policies are not good.

When they sell you a new computer and printer, they try to sell you $40 connector cables for the printer. You can get printer cables for $10 and HDMI cables for $15 - $20
at flea markets.

Hey Rogue, I bought a 6 ft. HDMI cable from the website that Fuji mentioned for slightly above $1 and compared it to the Monster cable that my friend has, I couldn't tell the difference as far as video quality goes.
So definitely order the cable from monoprice. From what I heard, choose the longest cable you can find, because it will give you better quality. Instead of buying the 1.5 feet long cable, get the 6 feet one. It took the item slightly over a week to arrived.

This is completely the opposite of how all wires work. The shorter the better. That said, get whatever size you need.

For what it's worth, every now and then there will be a random seller on Amazon.com (that's .com, not .ca) selling five 6-ft HDMI cables for $15 US. 3-ft HDMI cables are usually a few dollars less.

If you can wait 7-10 days, monoprice.com regularly has them for ~$7 US.

If you must have one immediately, Wal-mart sells 6-ft for ~$15.
