She seems reasonable intelligent, but fairly uneducated. Her early interviews about Canada and our stone age tech come to mind. Smart enough to join forces to ride the fame wave, and she probably trusted whoever was making her cash. Her early Charity efforts seem to indicate a good heart, and even if she did what she did on purpose, it was not with a clear understanding of the implications. Pick any random person and give her the random fame she had, and most would do worse.
Not matter her role she owes some kind of justice to the world - but the nature of that justice radically changes based on factors that I have no knowledge of. Is she a naive child used as a patsy to make some money, or the evil Karla type who pretends stupidity to get away with murder? All I know is she is both lucky and smart enough to take advantage of that luck, and she has natural charisma.
Lets hope that we as a society learn something positive when its all over.
