I never have and never will get a land line, give it max 5-10 years and it'll they'll be non existent. Why call a land line when you can get ahold of someone directly? And my born in 90's head (WHO CALLS, I DONT EVEN ANSWER MY CELL TEXT ME)

They may all be some flavour of VOIP based, but they'll be around for a long time. They have 3 killer features: 1) They're dirt cheap, 2) The call quality us generally much better than mobile phones, and 3) They exist at a fixed point in space (which is handy for making sure people are where they say they are). Beyond that, there are conversations you might not want to put into writing, and some communications just go better verbally.

why are people still using fax now we can use scanner and email?
Inertia and Japan. Beyond that, at scanner is handy, but kind of antiquated itself as most documents exist in digital form. (Not that business and government doesn't still produce mountains of paper, or that there isn't a lifetime of work ahead in digitizing documents.)

When the power goes off, it's as if every digital document had just perished in a fire. Never mind when the HHD fails and they all have perished.

There's a reason the first copy printed was given the name 'proof'. Paper to paper to paper transmission may be clumsy and awkward, but when reliability and durability matter we've been successful with paper for millennia. The couple of decades of digital count as a mere hiccup by comparison.

Still have a landline. At around $20 a month for VOIP from Tekksavvy it's not a big deal.

I find I need to charge my smartphone once a day if not more if heavy use so a line that doesn't need charging is a plus.

The jury is still out on the safety of cell phones so no need to expose myself to more use than I have to. Check out the W5 piece where they talk about the fine print on phones that advises you keep it a few mm away from your body.

Having two numbers is useful. There are some people I don't want to have direct access to me.

I find the sound quality is better on a line than cell.

Yep. Bunch of years ago. The only people who called it were telemarketers. So no point.

And I just killed my cable. Using antenna and Kodi box.

Just have Rogers Internet. It's a good enough price to make it worthwhile for the reliability.
Yes, telemarketers were the last straw for me. And I've been on antenna TV for 3 yrs. I used to install them, but our location is prime. Recently got a android Box, put Kodi on it and I'm not impressed, didn't wanna spend more time search for stuff than actually watching shows. Quality is crap on streaming .

For legal reasons.

Fax is much more secure. In our company we do all important telephone calls and send important documents using landlines because more secure than cell or email, although encrypting email is a partial security solution.

Exodus app has lots of good HD streaming. You also need a good Internet connection.

Sportsdevil for sports obviously. I watched the Jays in HD last night. Was on an MLB.tv feed.

While a bunch of the live isn't great my viewing habits have changed to where I only watch news and sports live. Antenna was for my SO. I time shift all the shows.

Heck I even watch UFC for free. And if you like Euro Footie(i don't personally) there is nothing like it.

I use VoIP. The main reason I have it is much cheaper overseas calling rates compared to my cellphone.

I can call Canada/US numbers free on my mobile phone but it's still expensive calling numbers in Europe and Asia compared to the basically nothing VoIP charges for those calls.

they just text, just text me.
When I advertise something for sale I just say text or email me (because a lot of potential purchasers can barely speak English). I sold a kiddie bike to a Korean student (Koreans tend to be small), her text messages were perfect English but her verbal English was poor.

Yes, I still have my land line.

1. Better quality sound.

2. I don't really like when people call my cell. A cell phone is a tool for my convenience. I will call you if I need to. Sometimes, I just turn the damn thing off.

3. Cheaper

4. No dropped calls.

5. I'm not keen on electromagnetic waves beaming into my brain.

6. Hard to lose a land line.

7. Immune to power failures

Even with kodi now you have to be careful. If they find out you are using it you can face ten years in prison for illegal streaming according to UK NEWS.
'Could' and 'UK' being operative in that. Kodi isn't the problem, it's Kodi users breaking (often dumb) laws in some jurisdictions like the UK.
