Get VOIPSome friends don't use their landline anymore and use their cell phone alone, its cheaper than paying for 2 services. The only thing that bothers me is that cells don't have the same quality as landline.
Is the software fongo? Its cheap but doesn't look free. The software goes on the computer? So that means the computer needs to be on at all times?Get VOIP

What??? You'll never win a free iPad with that attitudeThe only people who called it were telemarketers

Even if you absolutely must receive a fax, you can always go to Staples where they can accept inbound faxes.Gave up on it 10 years ago.
The only negative is you cant receive faxes on your cellphone

I switched to VOIP about 2 years ago. A basic land line through Bell was $30 plus/month. Asked them if they would consider dropping it to $10 and I would keep it, but they said no. I went with Magic Jack for $30/year. The initial package cost around $50 at the time. Computer does not need to be on as I have it plugged into the router. Reception is as clear as Bell was. Had to change the number, but have not had any telemarketer calls.Still have a landline but I'm giving very serious thought to changing over to VoIP
I'm going to see a Nigerian prince that has 50K and 2 sisters from Toronto with him....Take me with you, please. I promise I wont talk too much
For the vast majority of people, not having a land line while the power is out is a very minor inconvenience especially in the city. You're not likely calling anyone during a blackout. If the power goes out I have no land line. No biggie in my world.
Do you have cable or DSL? Do you get better quality with cable?I switched to VOIP about 2 years ago. A basic land line through Bell was $30 plus/month.
