Some friends don't use their landline anymore and use their cell phone alone, its cheaper than paying for 2 services. The only thing that bothers me is that cells don't have the same quality as landline.

I still have mine, though it's through Teksavvy and cheap. It's a 416 number, and it's hooked to my building's buzzer system. I could port my cellphone to the number but I often have people at my place when I'm not around so I'd rather keep the land line to let them buzz a food delivery in, etc. I also keep the landline around for more formal communication (Jobs, appointments, etc.). I try to only let friends and family have the cell number. It works for me.

Yep. Bunch of years ago. The only people who called it were telemarketers. So no point.

And I just killed my cable. Using antenna and Kodi box.

Just have Rogers Internet. It's a good enough price to make it worthwhile for the reliability.

Still have a landline but I'm giving very serious thought to changing over to VoIP
I switched to VOIP about 2 years ago. A basic land line through Bell was $30 plus/month. Asked them if they would consider dropping it to $10 and I would keep it, but they said no. I went with Magic Jack for $30/year. The initial package cost around $50 at the time. Computer does not need to be on as I have it plugged into the router. Reception is as clear as Bell was. Had to change the number, but have not had any telemarketer calls.

If the power goes out I have no land line. No biggie in my world.

For the vast majority of people, not having a land line while the power is out is a very minor inconvenience especially in the city. You're not likely calling anyone during a blackout.

Do you have cable or DSL? Do you get better quality with cable?

Yeah, pretty much.

And even if your landline does work, you're very likely to be calling cellphones which wont work
