My biggest problem right now is that I'm being turned down for jobs in my field because I have a low credit score. 2 years ago my mother got sick and that's pretty much when things started to fall apart.

Are companies legally allowed to turn you down for a job based on credit score and if not how do they get away with this?

I don't want to do anything illegal (sell drugs, pimp women, rob banks etc) as that has never been my nature so I'm not sure what to do.

I don't want to file bankruptcy and feel like a failure.

I think I could recover if I could get a consolidation loan but that's not gonna happen.

Are there any American companies that lend to Canadians?

Maybe I should just suck it up and file.
Well sure they can, a low credit score is an indication of someone with problems in their life, and these will likely impact their work. The only way to deal with it is to explain BEFORE they do the background check that this is there and this is why. Ask them if that is a deal breaker in a forthright manner and see what happens.

Have you tried the payday loans people?
They sound happy to assist in their commercials.

Sounds like you don't have a credit score to protect. Don't be driven by pride. Don't postpone the inevitable (if it is indeed inevitable). Consult a credit counsellor or bankruptcy trustee, not your local poonhounds.

Appreciate the thought but I need 10-15k to set things straight.

I can see now why some women turn to working as a SP or MPA. If I had that option I would have started working yesterday lol.

Great forum yall and great advice.

I find nowadays it's less about saving and more about debt management.

Hobbying doesn't help, with savings at all. Its more of an urge to meet than scratching an itch. I'm,wayy past that.

Also looking at talents in flirt or perla or pure doesn't help either.

Best way is to always take care of mortgage and stay out of eating, out every other nite. Make a plan to save 100-500 a month and use the savings as spending money for next year.

Funny thing is my situation isn't because of the "hobby".

I'm the type of person that tries to do random acts of kindness every day. Not just for good karma but just simply because it is the right thing to do. But now when I need some kindness I can't seem to find any :(

For some reason I just seem to be getting the shit end of the stick a lot lately.

What xmontrealer said is your best route, but find a professional who can offer all the options, otherwise, no matter what your circumstances they will channel you into the only option they can offer.
Find a full service firm that can do a bankruptcy or a consumer proposal or whatever is best for you. Don't expect help from your bank or any other creditors.
But yes, you can get through this and if you learn from all this you can have a future. Once you are honest with yourself about how you got here you can change where necessary and move on. The impartial professional advice is the key.

You never answered whether you can work outside Canada where your Canadian credit record won't matter.

Also, how bad is it? Just a few missed payments? Or do you have collections, judgements, and chargeoffs?

If it's just a few late payments it could recover within a year or two to an acceptable level but if you have accounts already charged off, sold to collections, or with judgements against you, you might not lose much in a bankruptcy.

You can also try a consumer proposal as an alternative.

But the biggest problem is you need a job, and you say your field you are being turned down due to credit checks? That's why I suggested working in the US or Europe where they won't give a fuck about Canadian credit scores.

I still get a bad feeling every time I walk past the pawn shops at Church and Queen. They thrive off the misery of the troubled, but that is the essence of ruthless capitalism . Lesson learned.

Not only pawn shops, PayDay Advance stores also thrive on the vulnerable. Don't get caught in that circle.

Lots of advice on here, some of it good. Unfortunately, it sounds like the OP has written his own script, focused on bankruptcy filing, and not really open to anything other than sympathy for getting the " shit end of the stick.........." Nothing is going to change until you stop feeling sorry for yourself and accept full responsibility for your circumstances. No magic bullet/pill. Talk to a credit counselor, do what you need to do....change your thoughts/attitude about money....and then get back to hobbying ;)

I have a savings problem (I shoot for 25% of my gross) and refunds getting clawed back has fucked up my cash flow. But I took up a second , high paying job so I'll be out of this temporary hole very quickly. But it's scary to see how quickly and innocently bills can pile up and one thing goes wrong, boom, you're 15k in the hole!

I'm pretty sure I can bounce back if I could consolidate the debt and still be able to save money but nobody will approve me for a consolidation loan :(

I'm holding off for another few days before filing. Perhaps I am delaying the enviable but I still have hope. It's all I have right now and without hope I have nothing.

True.... one can never rest on their laurels. When you're ahead, it's best to do everything possible to stay ahead. Loss of a job or poor business performance can turn a life upside down seemingly over night.
