Happy New Year everyone. Some of you may know me as a regular, senior. Unfortunately, I heard some news just recently that saddened me. Some may know that I am and have been a music lover going back to my early teenage years. My first idol was Buddy Holly, when Everley Bros. Johnny Cash, then soft rock such as the Beatles and folk style music John Prine, Gord Lightfoot, Kris Kristofferson and Van Morrison amongst many others, however, I just learned today (why I did not hear earlier, I don't know) that my biggest musical hero, Jimmy Buffett died in Sept. of a rare skin cancer at age 76. I think I have bought every album he ever recorded. I loved his music so much that when I would go on road trips through Canada and USA, I would constantly play his music as his songs were laid back, some humourous and some pretty ballads. Happened to see him live at Ontario Place years ago and he was a great performer. At this concert the aroma of marijuana was everywhere, and when I went to the bar at intermission for a beer, I met some executives from Cibc who I knew ordering drinks wearing the coconut bras and grass skirts which was his trademark, they pretended they didn't know me. His first album featured his first big hit, Come Monday, then recorded some humourous songs, Volcano, Fruitcakes, Who's The Blonde Stranger and others, then on the more serious side, Brown Eyed Girl who Van Morrison originally recorded, Remittance Man, African Friend and also many others. Sorry for the long dialogue but I truly enjoyed his music al these years and I will spend New Year's Day playing his songs from my library. Cheers everyone

I prefer to think of you as an elder statesman as opposed to senior. Knowing you from the various music threads here we discussed your love of Buddy Holly because he was my dad's favorite artist growing up as well. I didn't know you were a big Buffett fan though.
Indeed, eddie, yes indeed Jimmy Buffet is also one of, if not my all-time musicians and favourite people too. What a life he accomplished and enjoyed. His talent and work ethic brought so much enjoyment and happiness to so many people. All while just loving his life!
Yes, wasn't "Come Monday" such a beautiful song? His introduction to his first "music video" really brings home the authenticity of his music.
I hope you 'had fun' today listening to our friend and "hope you enjoyed the scenery" his music evokes in us Parrotheads!
Did you know Jimmy's last words were "Have fun".
BTW, I bought two vinyl copies (and one CD) of his last album, released posthumously. One of each for me to save or frame for sentimental reasons. The other to keep and either sell or give to a special friend(whom I haven't even met!) who is both a true admirer of Jimmy and appreciates and plays vinyl. This historic first edition (sold out!) was pressed on "Key West Blue" vinyl!

Yes, he wrote Come Monday about his second and current wife until his death Jane Slagsvol as he was touring in LA and she was in Key West. Apparently she had a strong influence on his career. Definitely going to miss him. Cheers.
