Six years ago today I was watching in barely contained rage-jealousy as my friends lined up to buy the original iPhone at Apple Stores across America. It had no third-party apps, no video recording, no MMS, no copy/paste, and nothing approaching the functionality of Treo, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, or Symbian (Wikipedia it) smartphones at the time, but it had a gorgeous capacitive multitouch interface and better first-party multitasking than had ever been seen in mobile before (it could switch from music to phone and back without crashing!)

The original iPhone was overpriced and under-functional, but it was also glorious and the beginning of a very real revolution in mobile. I got one here in Canada just as soon as it was jailbroken and unlocked, and could run on a local network (with a $200/100MB a month data plan!), and I've never looked back.

It was flawed, but it was the future. It was Steve Jobs' phone. It was Apple's phone. And it changed everything. Again.

Old news ... but worth sharing!

How Do You Tell the Difference Between an iPad and a Galaxy Tab? Don’t Ask Samsung’s Lawyers.

What an uncomfortable moment for Samsung at its court hearing with Apple on Thursday. Fielding questions from U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh, Samsung attorney Kathleen Sullivan was asked if she could distinguish between Apple’s iPad and Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1, which Koh held up for all the court to see.

Her reply, as first reported by Reuters: “Not at this distance, your honor.

Not at this distance, your honor.

Not the greatest answer in a case in which the defendant stands accused of “slavishly” copying a rival’s designs. More so, since Sullivan was standing just 10 feet away from the devices she was asked to identify.

Thankfully, one of her colleagues was able to come to her rescue, but only after this plea from Koh:
“Can any of Samsung’s lawyers tell me which one is Samsung and which one is Apple?”

Not a good day in court for Samsung.

I don't admit this to the circle around me cause I'm a flaky patriot who's rooting for BlackBerry (I know, I'm a looser). But the iPhone is hands down the best smart phone on the market. Nothing comes close. It's so smooth and functional. There really is an app for every thing. And every app is a joy to use. I am secretly in love with with the iPhone. But their business practices are atrocious. Under paying employees. Shell company's to avoid taxes. With the profits they make they should be a model corporate citizen. Their employees, even in China, should be the highest paid with the best benefits. They should pay their taxes and donate to education and health care in both the U S and China. They should be the Starbucks of the high tech world. THEN I'd proudly use their amazing phone. But until that happens I'll use a BlackBerry. And when they go broke I'll get an android. Just don't tell any one I care. Cause in public I don't.

Many people forget what the mobile marketplace looked like before the iPhone!

Those of us old enough remember ...
