k, I had a wisdom tooth out. I am an old fart in my 40s. Its now a week past when it was yanked out. I still have pain so I am taking 2 "tylenol 3 with codein 30mg" pills once in a while to stop that pain and it works. Now I feel like I wanna have sex with a chinese SP (anyways, off topic haha).

Anyone know if those things can do me harm? I dont usually take any meds for anything.

thanks.

Codene is a narcotic and can cause addiction. It is however a very slight dose that you are taking, and for the correct reasons - to combat pain. You should have nothing to worry about except perhaps constipation.

just wait until you come off the codein. Your toothache will be
in your ass. a little laxative might help.

Might want to investigate why it still hurts bad enough to need codeine after one week with just a ssingle tooth pulled.

Could be an infection, best not to mask everuthing with pain killers.

One week seems a long time.

I agree. Time to go back to the dentist.

I have been to dentists quiet frequently and had teeth pulled on many occassions. It is not normal for it to hurt after a week.

one T3 should be sufficient for most pain. 2 T3's is a little excessive and is equivalent to a T4 which is used in severe pain. if you still have pain after a week, you could have an infection or an exposed nerve. best to go see the dentist.

Go back to the dentist, the pain is not normal. When you are over 40 and have a wisdom tooth pulled you can get what is called dry socket which causes pain.

I am in my late 40's had three wisdom teeth pulled about 2 weeks ago. After 4 days had a tremendous amount of pain, even with the hydrocordone and tylenol. Broke out in a fever went back and it was determined that I had an infection at the site where the impacted tooth had to be hacked out. The anti-biotics seem to have it pretty well in check. But by all means go get it checked asap. Good luck

Codeine is what I take for hangovers (they work great), yes they can be addictive if you're prone to addicitons but generally they're not.

Alos keep in mind you can overdose on codeine, never exceed 2 tabs (30 mg each)
every 5 hours and you'll be OK.

My sister used to work in emergency hospital and once they brought in a codeine overdoser (apparently with codeine they cant pump your stomach), the guy had taken 15 tylenol 3's, EMS brought him, my sister asked where to put him, doctor said just put him anywhere he'll be dead in 15 minutes.

And he was

Scary!!!

Hmm... that would depend on how much time elapsed between taking all that codine and when he went to the hospital. They can pump the stomache, but that all depends on how much time has passed. Infact pumping the stomache and giving a laxative is normally the preferred method of treatment. Unless he used IV codine which in that case they would use a pharmaceutical. Usually with narcotics (and codine is a narcotic) they can administer a narcotic antagonist such as Naloxone.
According to wiki Naloxone only works on morphine and heroin, yes codeine is an opiod but its a semi-synthetic opioid (designer drug).

Well according to that article:
Naloxone is a drug used to counter the effects of opioid overdose, for example heroin or morphine overdose

and does not specifically mention codine....

However here it mentions narcotic antagonists for treatment of codine overdose...http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002613.htm

While I am not discounting your story, but just pointing out it lacks pertinent details such as how the codine was administered, what type, and how much time elapsed.

And this suggests Naloxone
HHmmmm......learn something new everyday, Ill ask my sis what the circumstances were, maybe it was too late for naloxone.

It's funny how some have had so much pain:eek: after having them removed, and others(like me), didn't have any pain/didn't need any pain killers.

Depends on how much digging the dentist needs to do to get them out. If one tooth had a cavity, then sometimes it will break when he tries to remove it and then he'll have to really dig around to get all the pieces out

Agreed. I had them out and barely touched the bottle of T3's probably stilll in my parents cupboard somewhere. Nah I'm sure they've thrown it out by now that was 13 years ago. For me I just found that I had to stick to soup and soft foods for a week or so till the wounds healed up and the stitches dissolved on their own.

After a bike accident with a broken collarbone I was on T3s for a bit. I popped them like PEZ and got sick. So all I can say is taking them as perscribed and no more.

Well, i can tell you it wasn't "funny". YMMV when getting teeth out just like an SP.
