Jimmy Page loses his best friend. Beck and Page started The Yardbirds, then Page left to form a new band. Eric Clapton took over but it didn't last long.

The proto LZ was featured on Jeff Beck Truth in Beck Bolero...with JP Jones as well as Page.

Jeff Beck Truth also featured an unknown singer. This album came out two months after Sergeant Peppers.

I double checked since I have the album on vinyl, Wikipedia is incorrect, it came out in 1967.

Great guitarist, he looked good till the end. He also covered so many people and played with the top musicians. Check out this Blues...if you're a Rocker you'll recognize someone in the public. 1:53

two of my early Jeff Beck Group favourites:

both with Rod Stewart on vocals and Ron Wood on bass.

I was lucky enough to see the Jeff Beck Group live at The Fillmore East in NYC with supporting act Joe Cocker, back in the day. What a great show!

Fuck no!
He looked just the same as he did 40 years ago. Thought he would never die. Just for no reason at all I watched a youtube documentary about him the night before last. This is one I actually can't believe. I lived in the UK at the time of his young heyday. About 30 miles away from London. Had friends who knew him. Hung out at Eel Pie Island and all that.
A true independent rebel. Saw him a couple of times. 1976 "Wired" tour, with Jan Hammer. At his peak.
What a great life. Seemed like a great guy.

Very under-rated band The Yardbirds.

It's hard to know who was there alongside Beck when the band reached it's peak. This cover suggests Clapton.

The chronology here is a little messed up. Clapton was the original Yardbirds guitarist, and when he left he recommended Page. However, Page was happy being a session player, and he recommended Beck...who took the gig. Page joined the band as the bassist for a bit, but then him and Beck were the guitarists until Beck left...And the Yardbirds broke up a bit after that. But considering the Yardbirds had three of the most influential guitarists as members at one time or another is pretty crazy. They all had incredible careers afterwards, while today people can only name a few songs from the Yardbirds...and probably no other members of the band....

Rod Stewart gave an honest assessment of Jeff Beck. He said he wasn't difficult, quite the opposite, he was very intuitive and complimented my singing. They were still performing together until 2019, they probably would have done so again. After doing session work on Truth, Jimmy Page followed Beck's example by hiring a total unknown to front his new band. Although Robert Plant had presence, he was never as flamboyant as Rod Stewart.

Jimmy Page playing bass on the Oscar Hammerstein showpiece.

Very under-rated band, Truth got me into them. According to what I've red, Beck had left when they recorded this song with Page as solo guitarist.
