Next time leave some laundry detergent in the room, they just might catch on.Had some guests staying over the holidays. When they left they tidied up their room and made the bed. I always wonder why people do that instead of stripping the bed so we can wash the sheets. That would be easier for the hosts.
Making the bed says: "Hey, thanks for having me over. I respect your space and would like to leave it in a nice, tidy condition."Had some guests staying over the holidays. lol.making the bed says: "hey, thanks for having me over. I respect your space and would like to leave it in a nice, tidy condition."
stripping the bed says: "please, for the love of god, do not shine a blacklight anywhere in the room. Sorry if things smell a bit funky."
This is funny, dude if you wanted them to do the laundry you should have told them so. I am pretty sure etiquette dictates that the guest is required to make the bed or keep the place tidy but not do the laundry.Had some guests staying over the holidays. That wasn't what he said at all. No where did he suggest the guest do laundry, but rather, just leave the bedding un-made so the host can gather it up easier to take to the laundry themselves. Although, my inlaws stayed with us a few days during a move a few years ago and my mother in law did actually wash the bedding and remake the bed before they left (and left a note telling my wife so she didn't wash it again lol). This is funny, dude if you wanted them to do the laundry you should have told them so. That was just the first link I found on the topic but feel free to dig in and google as maybe there is an official guide somewhere.
Even when I feel the need to make some brownie points with the missus, and I have been known to pull out the mop and feather duster at 3am when I stroll in, and clean the house up a bit, I've never thought of vacuuming while the house is sleeping lol.One of my houseguests over the new year woke up before everyone else on New Years Day, he had not imbibed quite as heavily as everyone else, and went crazy tidying up the house and vacuuming everything in sight. when the sound of the vacuum finally penetrated our hangovers he told us we were going to get the house shipshape (not that it was overly untidy before the party, just lived in, I dont live in a showhouse). I told him on New Years Morning shipwrecked is a perfectly acceptable shape for a ship.
Not that I don't appreciate the effort, but it did take me several days to get things back to where they were supposed to be...
Vacuuming on New Years Day?!?!? I,d kill 'em. You sound like a glass half empty kind of person.Had some guests staying over the holidays. When they left they tidied up their room and made the bed. I always wonder why people do that instead of stripping the bed so we can wash the sheets. That would be easier for the hosts.
They did it to be helpful.
Take in and appreciate the value of what they tried to do for you.
As someone that hosts quite a few guests I usually will mention on their last night, or at breakfast on the last morning that it would appreciated if they take off the sheets. In most cases, I will tell them there is a clean set they can put back on.Had some guests staying over the holidays. When they left they tidied up their room and made the bed. My bad, the way I read it I got the impression that he wanted them to do the laundry. In any case, if the OP wanted the sheets folded I think the right thing would have been to express his expectations rather than leave it to the guest read of the situation as many guests would have simply made the bed thinking that's enough. That wasn't what he said at all. Not that it happens often, but the few times we do stay overnight or a few days at friends/relatives, my wife does make the bed before we leave. At a hotel, we kind of straighten it up a touch, but don't make it to the same way the staff do.
I didn't expect them to do anything but what they did- but in thinking about it- I wondered why guests do not strip the bed- we all know the sheets are going to be washed but we (yes I do it too) make the bed as if that's the end of it. It's like a note I have on my desk at work: "Don't touch this mess. I know where everything is."Not that I don't appreciate the effort, but it did take me several days to get things back to where they were supposed to be...
You sound like a terrible host. Do you ask them to bring their own toothpaste and coffee as well?As someone that hosts quite a few guests I usually will mention on their last night, or at breakfast on the last morning that it would appreciated if they take off the sheets. Never had anyone give it a second thought. After all, they are staying at my place not the Fairmont down the street, so maid service is not included.
Funny ANd true!Making the bed says: "Hey, thanks for having me over. I respect your space and would like to leave it in a nice, tidy condition."
Stripping the bed says: "Please, for the love of God, do NOT shine a blacklight anywhere in the room. Sorry if things smell a bit funky."
