So it seems.
You have your delusions that the indy girls you pay to have sex with are your personal friends so you bring a delusional confirmation bias to the discussion and are willfully, if not belligerently ignorant of other points of view that add to the discussion.
"Profiteering" is a pejorative term for the act of making a profit by methods considered unethical. Or of putting an unreasonable level of pricing on a product or service.
I think incall agencies charge what amounts to a 25% fee. 25% GROSS margin. Can you run your business on that?
For that 25% , they provide a hotel room or condo, paid employees to handle the calls which I suppose might have a 20% closing rate, non-stop advertising and having to make good on customer complaints etc.
Many rational girls feel that is a fair price to pay for not having to deal with incessant texts, calls, arranging their own appointments and paying for they locations, constantly advertising and having some sense of security of knowing someone responsible and competent is going to keep watch over them if they don't call in. Their is value in that. In every business. Otherwise, why doesn't every lawyer answer their own phone, set up their own website, make their own appointments and clean their own offices?
Aside from the direct costs of advertising, hotels and the time spent answering calls etc etc, I think the girls would net more money with an agency handling that end of the business.
And finally, if you think that most girls advertising on back pages etc are "independent" you are simply delusional. And those girls pay ALL their money to their "agents" and get back some nominal stipend to live on.
This business equation changes as the girls become "courtesans" and the volume of their business slows down simply by market demand for for younger women. These "courtesans" have more time on their hands to field their own calls, make, schedule and adhere to their own appointments
and they have more control over whom they see. This is good for many sp's.
However, not all good plumbers can run their own business so they work for plumbing contractors who "profiteer" on the backs of the victimized plumbers. Same for office workers, associate lawyers, company accountants etc.
Somehow I doubt that...
