Greta Thunberg accused Israel of committing war crimes and genocide in the Gaza Strip, demanding an end to “inexcusable violence” days after Israeli forces resumed attacks against Palestinian militant group Hamas.

“The horrific murders of Israeli civilians by Hamas cannot in any way legitimise Israel’s ongoing war crimes,” the Swedish activist said in an opinion piece published Tuesday in several outlets. “Genocide is not self-defence, nor is it in any way a proportionate response.”

Thunberg, whom Israel has lambasted for publicly showing her support for the Palestinian cause, pushed back against accusations that her activist movement, Fridays for Future, has “been radicalised” or “become political.”

“We have always been political, because we have always been a movement for justice,” she wrote. “Standing in solidarity with Palestinians and all affected civilians has never been in question for us.”

In the fiery op-ed with other members of the Fridays for Future Sweden group, Thunberg slammed Swedish military cooperation with Israeli arms companies, which she says “makes Sweden complicit in Israel’s occupation and mass killing.”

“Demanding an end to this inexcusable violence is a question of basic humanity, and we call on everyone who can to do so,” Thunberg said. “Silence is complicity. You cannot be neutral in an unfolding genocide.”

Thunberg also pointed to the “sharp increase” in antisemitic and Islamophobic acts across the world, including in Sweden, where far-right Sweden Democrats leader Jimmie Åkesson recently suggested demolishing mosques and where a group of protesters burned the Israeli flag near a synagogue in Malmö.

“This is unacceptable,” she wrote. “We unreservedly condemn all forms of discrimination, including antisemitism and Islamophobia.”

Last week, Israel renewed its offensive in Gaza after a truce between Israel and Hamas collapsed. The offensive, launched in response to Hamas’ own surprise attack against Israel which killed more than 1,200 people, has killed more than 15,000 Palestinians so far, according to both the Palestinian Authority and Hamas-run Gaza health ministry.

I know what happened to Israel is a terrible tragedy. But I'm wondering how many lives it's going to take before Israel is satisfied and feels Vindicated

this is more a matter of self preservation & survival for Israel.

the quest should be how many lives it's going to take before Hamas stops seeking the elimination of the Israeli state.

It has nothing to do with satisfaction or vindication. It has everything to do with eliminating Hamas and rescuing the remaining hostages

Perhaps but one can't help feel that the Israelies have another agenda especially after that debacle at the hospital where they found no evidence of any Hamasaki headquarters but dozens died as a result

First this agenda you are referring to is simply in your statement imagination and second I am not sure what debacle you are talking about because the idf has provided ample evidence of arms and tunnels etc. wherever they have targeted .

The only interview concerning Thunberg that I would be interested to read will never happen. It would be an interview of all the journalists who cover her explaining why the world should care about the political opinions of someone with as little insight as she can offer, and who is clearly coping with at least some minor mental illness.

Will Greta be the first president of our global idiocracy?

It was always about self preservation for Netanyahu, without this war he would be turfed from office and the corruption trial would continue.
Instead he's made zionism into a word associated with genocide and the world is busy with nazi comparisons to his action.

Israel can't survive as an apartheid, genocidal state even after it 'wins' and the US stops it.

Their intelligence stated that the hospital was sitting on Hamas headquarters and basically destroyed a hospital killed dozens and turned up nothing useful then the media magically made the story disappear. There was an interview with an Israeli official ( can't remember who) when asked about the raid sidestepped the questions and got very defensive and hostile played the victim card
To try and shut the interviewer down

The IDF uses the same technique all the time.

40 beheaded babies
bombing a hospital parking lot
Hamas headquarters under hospitals
human shields

And now the story they are pushing is that Hamas raped hundreds of thousands at the music festival on Oct 7.
It works the way trump lies work, if you keep pushing out new ones regularly by the time its been properly researched and debunked they've already moved on to the next one.

I'm sure Hamas would do the same except they are cut off from the world, so instead we just get occasional reports from those who can find solar chargers for their devices and still connect to the world.

UN human rights chief: Israel has not responded to requests for access to probe rape allegations

Volker Turk, the United Nations high commissioner for human rights, says that for weeks he has “asked the Israeli authorities … to deploy a team, my team, to monitor, document, investigate the issues of the horrific attacks on Israelis”.
“I’ve repeated this call and I hope it will be heard but so far, I haven’t received a response,” he said during a news conference.
Hamas has flatly rejected accusations of rape and sexual violence perpetrated on October 7 as “unfounded lies”.

All those bombs are really bad for global warming. I might be wrong, but didn't Audubon decry that sort of thing during the American Civil War?

that may be your interpretation and that is fine , it is not mine. They demonstrated that it had been an arms cache, there was command and control and some number of hostages had been taken there. Was it as big a deal as originally thought? No. Did it disrupt and reduce Hamas capabilities? Of course. Did it result in closing and reducing tunnels? Of course,

it is trite but war is not always precise. The idf as do every military, acts on the best information they have at the time. Is the information and intelligence always right on? Obviously not. None of that changes the indisputable fact that Hamas embeds its rockets and command and control in hospitals, schools, mosques, apartments etc.

No, they found nothing under the hospital. They knew there was a bunker there, Israel built it in 1983, but thought it would be in use and it wasn't.
So they planted a few guns by an MRA machine as if someone would hide them there, posted some faked photos that everyone laughed at and then moved on to the rape claims.

Its all part of the same story.

what other agenda could there be other than eliminating Hamas for the goal of self preservation & survival.

are you going to pretend Hamas does not use the people of Gaza as human shields ?

if you are going to pretend, please lets us know, so you can be placed on ignore

Absolutely nothing about this is self-preservation or survival. What an idiotic proposition to allege that a nuclear weapons state like Israel supported by the worlds most powerful state, is facing an existential threat from Hamas with their AK47s and RPGs. 🤦‍♂️

You should put me on ignore and everyone else who doesn't agree with you. I'm not going to put you on ignore but I am going to ignore you. You are obviously incapable of having an intelligent debate and I'm too old to waste time with somebody like you.

when you push propaganda while ignoring the barbaric rape / slaughter of 1,200 innocent civilian's, its a red flag that you are not interested in an intelligent debate.
you also failed to answer a direct question

when you fail to answer a direct question, it is also a red flag that you are not interested in an intelligent debate.

There is no doubt that it was not as big a find as they thought. But there is also no doubt that they found a Hamas stronghold. You are simply pointing out the problem with Hamas embedding itself in hospitals, schools, mosques etc. The idf is able to determine they are there but not necessarily the magnitude. Just shows the complete disregard by Hamas of civilians.

There wasn't any find. It was proven as deceptive imagery perception. They lied. And if you don't think this guy is qualified to say things, go look at his LinkedIn profile.
