Just like your parents may not have understood your choice of music when you were younger, you are dismissing the music of another generation just because you don't like it.

Wow. Your grasp of the music industry is amazing. Sting is an aging easy-listening has-been, trying to appeal to a younger audience by hooking up with somebody with some actual street cred - something Sting hasn't had for since, well, last time I noticed was 1988.
The Police were interesting; Sting, not particularily. I wonder who's agent and management approached who? I'll bet it was Sting's people who approached Sean Paul.
Why? Because Sean Paul sells records to people who are hip enough to stay in touch with modern music and new artists rather than clinging to clapped-out old farts who are way past it, musically or otherwise.
Why do you think Sting was shopping around Roxanne? Because it's one of the few songs anyone remembers, and, ironically was a Police song, not any of the pretentious crap 'ol solo Sting's been squeezing out for the last 15 years.

I went to a concert at the Skydome a few years back. The opening band was Nine Inch Nails. The main act was supposed to be David Bowie. He was hoping for a cross over audience to get new blood interested in his music. It flopped. After NIN finished, three quarters of the audience left. I think he has since stuck with what got him here. Aging musicians try it all the time. Tom Jones doing heavy metal??
