I got a scary text yesterday. Used my first name then asked if my friends and family know that I am hiring escorts off Leolist and them asked if I was going to tell them or not.

It was an Ottawa number. Would it be the feds? Only other thing is that I was in Peterborough the day before and text a girl that never responded. Ad seemed a bit sketchy. Would it just be someone scaring me?

It wouldn't be the feds. Chances are it was an escort just yanking your chain. Do you use your real first name when you communicate with them?

Yes actually I do use my real name. But very very rarely have i ever given it. Use a fake name for now on I take it? Do you even use a fake name when you are with the girls?

Fake name, burner phone, and I've even gone as far as a fake plate to stick over the real one when I have to leave the car where someone might see it.

This is where text apps are a mixed blessing. Helps with anonymity, but a lot of girls won't answer them now. One time a girl responded only to say she wouldn't deal with a text app, so I said I would text back from a real number only if we agreed to meet. That worked.

I had the same text. I asked a couple of questions but the replies seemed canned; like a bot? I blocked and waited for disaster; nothing happened. Somebody fucking with the sinners is my guess. Strange shit though. Reminds me again that there is no such thing as too paranoid in this context.

I also doubt it would be the feds. They have many more pressing issues to attend to than texting back someone who may have texted a SP off Leolist.
Like it was said above, use a burner phone that is not attached to your real name. There have been several threads on use of burner phones.

Have you ever received an e-mail that said "we have recorded you from your webcam" where they want you to send bitcoin so that they don't send out an incriminating e-mail to all your contacts. I've gotten it about a half dozen times by now. Always just deleted it, and nothing has ever happened. Probably because this monitor I'm using is so old that it doesn't have a built in webcam, I'm not too worried about them recording me doing something that I wasn't doing.

$100 says he’s posted something for sale on kijiji

What makes you think that?

I have had two similar messages in the past year when I had inquired of a few Leolist ads. I have used a (paid) burner app for the past couple years for reasons like this. All too easy for a blackmailer to reverse search someone's real phone number to find their identity and see if they are worth blackmailing. I also had this mutt of a Russian scammer incall near Fairview Mall threaten to call my wife and kids because I left as she opened the door and saw she was gross. I laughed because not only doesn't she have my number, but I don't have a wife or kids! I'm private but have noting worth blackmailing me over.

This scene changes and we have to change with it.

I have created an entire alter-ego/identity that is about 180 degrees away from who I am. From where I live to my profession etc. And a burner number and email is vital to maintain that privacy.

One time I replied to a Leolist ad and the 2nd reply said that "she" was turning 18 in a few days and if I was cool with that. I replied that I was willing to help her find help at a protective agency or would call the police to help her if she was being trafficked. I got a reply that said something to the effect that it was the police on a sting operation and thanking me for offering to help etc. I changed my burner to another app right then so my number was not on their records.

The more I think of this all, I think it is time for me to get a 7-11 burner phone that is truly anonymous. The text apps are only a warrant away from your real number.

Look into your phone settings. Ever text someone's number, and your phone suggests their name? Pretty sure there is a setting somewhere where your phone will share your name with other phones. I have recieved a message like yours before too. Nothing came of it thankfully, but that made me switch to a burner app.

I also found my social media was linked and searchable from my phone number, so that's something to check as well.

It is mostly likely the scammer are trying to extort you for money. Don't worry about it. If the police want to get you, they won't call or text you - they rather charge you for seeing a escort. Than again, they would have raid all the agency in Toronto if it was that big of a problem.

Normally, the police would rather do a sting operation to find people who wanted to see an escort that are underage. Unless you are living in a very small town which the police have a lot of time on their hand. So, don't worry about it.

Also, never use your real name, unless you are using a variation of your name - like William aka Liam or Maverick aka Avery or Ricky? Indeed, try to created an alter ego of yourself aka Joe Doe?

As for the burner phone, if an SP is not willing to see you because you have an text app - move on. Unless it is a reputable agency and very popular SP that has lots of review - than you might consider it. Other than that, use a burner phone or use smaller phone companies like LUCKY, CHATR et cetera for the pay as you go.

Good luck.
