I'm sure they are but I highly doubt it. As a matter of fact, I will add, Trump would be decimated in a general election.
You can't say that.

If you get a major party nomination, you basically have a floor and especially due to the deformations of the American system, you always have a shot at winning.
In the current negative polarization environment, that's just the way it is.

Add in the fact that people will react to external shocks in all kinds of silly ways, you can never guarantee Trump (or anyone else) would be decimated this far out. (A collapse much closer to actual election day is different.)

There are thin margins in a presidential election, even if Biden wins by even more votes than last time.
You just need a few breaks in the right way, and Trump can win even if most of the country doesn't want him.

That you think left vs right are the same concerning rich vs poor is telling.

Despite that, I (and others) have been calling it "The New Gilded Age" for a long time now.

Why the fuck are you having these conversations on vacation man?

Shows you what propaganda can do.

Your vacation conversation with random citizens involved things like "Brown people considering Trump"?
You get in these conversations because people want to talk about it. Don't worry, I had a blast at Universal studios. The new Velocicoaster is fucking awesome. 75 mph magnetic launches into loops and twists with no shoulder restraints, just a lap bar.

And it was an American born brown 20 something uber driver after dinner with a friend. We ended up chatting after the ride was over. Aa well as a few hot hot tub conversations with fellow tourists. See the same people nightly topics happen.

Same when I'm in Vegas for hours on a Blackjack table. Conversations happen.

Your problem may be not interacting with other people. Especially out of your economic demograghic.

Yes, anything is possible with the Electorate College system but the douchebag hasn't won a thing since 2016, this primary aside which isn't over yet. Hopefully, with a conviction or the 14th Amendment they can knock him out on his rump.

It would be nice, but I am just saying that if he gets the nomination, he has a chance to win.
(Same with anyone else who gets the nomination of either major party.)

Poor Joe Biden, he's just an old man. What chance does he have against The King of Kings, almost all the others running in GOP are his disciples.

So it is written, so it will be done.

On the whole, I agree. While desperate ( and angry) for change and sick of “stuff”, the dirty masses and moderates, thankfully, are unlikely to venture down that path again.

That said, the Left said the same prior to 2016.

One thing the US system has that we don’t is the electoral college. Which in theory is supposed to mitigate……what exactly?

The Electoral college was there because they wanted a separate executive (or really just couldn't imagine how it would work without one since a prime minister with real executive power hadn't happened yet in England) and came up with the idea of the president.

They didn't want him chosen by the congress because that was just a prime minister and so made up the electoral college.

Which was a disaster almost immediately and had to have fixes right away. Then it just became "kind of obviously stupid but hard to change and hasn't actually broken anything I guess".

Originally it was to mitigate the Congress while still allowing the states to be the main force weighing in on how presidents were chosen. That got harder and harder to fit with the idea of broader suffrage.

It's a shit show and barely made sense when it was enacted and has made less and less sense since. But amendments are hard and some people really benefit from it disproportionately so it is extremely difficult to abolish or even change.

It is supposed to insure that blacks don't get too much power.

Yes.

Apportioning more votes by land than by people has perverse effects.
And the distortion along that specific axis is far worse now than it was then.

Their ideas are pretty much stupid. But this is the type of thing that happens to corrupt govt machines. The deep state isn't a "Star Chamberesque" cabal but a slowly developed group think where like minded people were promoted. Especially in the Intelligence services. Of which there are FOURTEEN. And due to the Patriot Act now have over a Trillion in money to play with including the use of Military. And all geared towards, in many departments, pleasing donors over serving voters.

So when a vacuum is created, in this case, a lack of anti corruption politicians, liars and this type have the ability to gain traction. And when they can get this organized, its because people see the vacuum, and know they can win.

As I keep saying, it's probably going to get worse before it gets better. Its just history, continuing its repetition. Last century it was Robber Barons, this century a new donor class. In both cases, rich vs poor, and not left vs right.

I was down in the USA last week on vacation. And pretty much every citizen I spoke with, when politics came up asked the same questions, from service workers, to retirees.

Why are prices so high, food and gas? And why are we sending billions to Ukraine and not helping our own people in Hawaii and the rest of the nation? Brown people considering Trump. Women consideting Trump.

I saw the same signs in 2015.
There are over 6700 spoken languages in the world. Can't you do anything but talk shit? Maybe Cheeto Mussolini should be consideted. Whatever the hell that means...

And you know this how? Quebec has more seats than it’s population warrants…

Be that as it may. That is not what proportional does. And if we go back to why the US has the Electoral college…

Regardless given the division/polarization. Given the insane ( for lack of better words) disparities between A and B. Given this thread….

clearly something needs to change. Of them all, I’d say voters thinking of things outside their immediate backyards won’t be it.

Yes.
This is bad in general.
At least in the Quebec situation, it is a choice made with some historical logic.
Of course, it is also not a Presidential system, so the comparison has many weaknesses.

Be that as it may. That is not what proportional does.
What is not what proportional does?
Regional representation?
Malapportionment?

What argument are you trying to make?

And if we go back to why the US has the Electoral college…
The electoral college doesn't have to do with county level results.

Regardless given the division/polarization. Given the insane ( for lack of better words) disparities between A and B.
What are "A and B" in your analogy and what do they have to do with counties or with malapportionment of the vote in the United States?

clearly something needs to change. Of them all, I’d say voters thinking of things outside their immediate backyards won’t be it.
Are you proposing there should be structural change in the way the US conducts presidential elections?
