Have you ever looked up online , people that you knew many years ago to see what became of them?

One guy I went to university with died this past pandemic summer, he was only 59.
An SP that I saw regularly approx. 28 years ago (she told me her real name) died in 2019, she was only 46.
A co worker died in 2016, she was only 38.
Others went on to have good careers.

I have...co-workers, high school friends, etc...mixed bag of results such as successful careers and accomplishments to obituaries and arrests.

In the last 10 years, using Google, I found out 3 former grade school classmates passed away.

I have in the past made alt Facebook accounts to research specific characters; it's so interesting, and on the other side concerning, how much info can be found out nowadays without even talking to someone.

At a SP near me
Potential interviewees for hire always get googled. This has happened in all the places I’ve worked and across various departments.

It’s amazing what you can find out about people prior to deciding if they get an interview or not just by doing a Google search.

Googled an old classmate who I had as a Facebook friend, hadn’t heard from him in a couple years. His last post was 2018 so I’ll check the obits next.

Don't bother checking obit's past 7mins. If they or family didn't want you to know it won't be on any media form. Newspaper or internet. Now you can go back and check internet obits but it will take a month before google finds it for you, if available, as along as you don't clear your browser cache.

If no activity on social media there are several reasons. Forgot password or didn't transfer properly between cell phones, and doesn't care anymore, or spouse gave an ultimatum spouse or internet. I noticed some people create FB account to look for others and after several months stop using it. I noticed some activities area old, some created it to look good for job prospects, old flame, School buddies trying to relieve /relive the past or get together. Searching old flames to see what they look like now.

Now unless there were locally famous/ or died in awful accident you might find it on the internet, again as along as you don't clear your browser cache.

It does seem somewhat creepy/stalkerish to search for someone on social media. I don't do it, don't know exactly how to do it and don't condone it. Some guy takes a pic of a girl/woman in public and then search for her on Facebook, Instagram, etc. Gross!

Stalkerish
"characterized by or displaying an obsessive and inappropriate or unwelcome interest in someone.
"we all know that there are some stalkerish fans out there""

Dart has just laid down the law ... from someone who likes posting naked pictures of random women. Somewhere Sharapova would like her dignity back.

If they put information out there, anyone can read it.
Don't want someone to know when your birthday is or where you live or how many siblings you have or your new SO or car, or your interests then don't post about it online.
How much of a dumb ass are you to think nobody is gonna read what you post, social media is literally harvesting data and selling it to advertisers which has been made pretty clear in recent history.
How do you think all these free services stay afloat?
Information/knowledge is power.

It should be called UsedBook not FaceBook.

Yup, I hear you. Just to be clear, my post was just a general statement on the general topic of searching for someone on social media. Yes, I am aware that
the OP in this case is searching for people he knows and that is very different than searching a random stranger.

I think it is also acceptable to re-post pics (especially if they are public figures) that are already out in the public domain. On the other hand, private pics should be properly cropped, obscured, edited to protect the innocent.
