Hey all, I just got an MP3 player and im looking to find a good safe site to download music from. Free is best (still legal here in Canada isnt it?) I have been warned that some of the sites out there carry viruses, as i know lots of sites do in general, but has anyone got a good reliable site i should check out? Any info is appreciated. Thanks

I believe WinMX is the only music download site which doesn't bring in ANY spyware to your computer.
Yes but a good antispyware program like ad-aware or spybot should easily get rid of all that stuff.
It's a small price to pay for "sharing" music. No pun intended.

depends how drunk I am
for music...go w/ Bearshare

I've tried D/L 'ing music from Kazza, I-mesh, limewire, etc. The best one IMHO for music is Bearshare. Reasons- w/ kazaa and limewire, they have bigger selections...BUT you get alot of 'fake' files (wrongly named) and alot of times you'll get this f*#king annoying 'hiss' after playing the song for a short while. I think some sort of sabatoge job from pranksters. In my experience, w/ Bearshare's file hashing/ verifying system, you get more reliabilty in terms of getting the correct file and usually higher quality playback versions of a particular song.

It's true that you get some ad-ware bundled w/ these 'free' p2p progs...but there's many ways to correct the problem.

I agree 100% - I use the Bear for music mainly and the torrents for movies
Bearshare isnt real good for Hollywood movies but for porn its OK

eXeem2.0 lite, lite is the key

I have used them all over the years, BearShare to date has been the best, but recenly noticed the avilable files going downhill, so recently looked for an alternative. Exeem is great, but a little bloated, so now there is exeem lite http://www.exlite.net/ , love it, so spyware, no adware. This is the only way you can get brittney spears on your hard drive, LoL (geek humor)
Cheers, Martini.

Man, and to think I've been paying thru Future Shop's Bonfire site

I guess I've been getting ripped off. Great thread for MP3 novices. Thanks.
