Once thing I heard at a workshop many years ago was that anger always masks fear. I paid attention to that in the following days, weeks, months whenever anger was expressed between two people, towards me, or when I was mad at someone else. I would always be asking myself where's the fear? Invariably I always found it.
When your child runs across the road, why do you get angry at your kid? When you show up late for work without telling your boss in advance, why does s/he dress you down? When your parents used to get mad at you for staying out too late,....etc.
It has been one of the most enlightening things said to me.
In the example above, when your beauty doesn't work, then what?
While it does mask fear not in every case. Some people are just plain mean. But I suppose it's fear of losing the power they perceive they have. And fear of no longer standing out. Just being a normal person with no special privilege. The good looking ones get used to it.
I read an article a bunch of years ago from a former "hot" girl. Her looks faded and all of a sudden she realized that the world wasn't such a nice place where everyone just does things for her because that's the way it is. And how it changed her life and the way she treats other people.
Given that fear is what causes anger, then it's easy to see why models react with fury when their looks can't get them what they want. Their looks are their bread and butter, and suddenly guys aren't buying what they're selling. I think it would make me fearful too.
This is a good time to point out my new signature line.
If the 2 girls at the booth were selling kisses for $5, I believe they would have had a line up. However, they could barely get anyone to even donate $5 to help some needy people.
You mean they could not get anyone to donate $5 so that 10 cents can help some needy people and the rest can go to greedy charity executives....:ambivalence:
