My friend has a Mac which she also uses as a DVD to play movies etc, she has no tv. Therefore, she is looking to buy a set of speakers for better sound when watching DVDs.
We saw 1 at shoppers last week for 79.99, seemed like a good product,3 piece, remote control and has a wall mount which is a bonus, but due to their refund policy, and neither of us experts in the elec field, once you open the box = no refunds, we decided against it. Dont remember the name etc. if anyone knows what i'm talking about and knows its good, feel free to let me know.
You dont know how good it exactly will be without trying it.

I think this policy is different from stores such as futureshop, best buy right? long as within 30 days and have receipt you can have refund?

Anyways, i've provided 2 links below, hoping i can get some recommendation as to which are good quality speakers for the price. Nothing spectacular, shes in a house separated by 3,4 units, in a small bedroom, so dont need anything tooooooo powerful, lol, i see quite a few for under $100, i think thats prob the limit she'd like to spend on this.

Comparing a couple speakers, seems futureshop is cheaper than bestbuy??
thanx

There's so much out there in the way of speakers. No computer seakers will satisfy the audiophile but plenty of them are decent for medium volumes. Get a 2.1 system at least, that is, one with a subwoofer.

I have 2 sets of JBL Creature II, which I got from ebay for about $60 each delivered to me. I use them for my iPod, they have replaced all my stereo stuff except the old beast which runs the TV (for no reason other than the TV room is big enough for all that equipment. The JBLs are the best for the money, I think they are about $150 new.

With Factory Direct it all depends on your price range and what is available in stock and which locations your going to travel to to get what your looking for

I got a dvd/vcr player there for 40$ its been 2 years and it's still runing

I got my video camera there, tripod, cables for the computer like ehternet, mouse and keyboard extentions, microphone headsets.

liike I think these speakers are nice but for my budget on electronics I would not go this high for them.

And also somethings listed on the website are not on the website but they are in the store and on the back of every 24 news paper has this weeks sales things go out of stock fast at factory direct

I got my lexmark 5150 printer there it came free with 2 logitec msn webcams what a sweet deal it was 80$ but the ink are 40$ for black and 40$ for white or 80 $ for the double black and color pack.

I don't suppose anyone knows or belongs to any audiophile forums? Someone in passing recently mentioned that there was a cheap set of speakers that the audiophiles were actually pleasantly surprised with.

I belong to a few... There is a set that does keep getting mentioned. Its made by Monsoon Planetar. They rate pretty high for a 2.1 computer speakers. That being said though there are some in the Creative line that keep coming up too... INspire series I believe. But these are also getting crazy reviews, they are ugly as sin and have cheesy lighting effects but they blow away Logitech and Altec in side by sides of comparible speakers.

And these are new but getting pretty solid reviews.

10 bucks? wow, you're such an audiophile lol.....

I used to use crap like that but got a great deal on 360 watt 5.1 surround speakers from logictech....I tell ya, I wish I could get my truck to sound this good. I haven't heard such tight bass and crisp highs in anything else.....I paid $100.00 for them at a discount place on college just west of spadina, south side. Can't remember the name though.....

I got a pair of logitech's speakers for $10, powered, good enough for me.
My other speakers weren't powered and at max volume on the computer, the sound wasn't loud at all.
But these $10 jobbies did their job.
With computer volume set to max, if i turn the knob on the speakers past 5 (out of 10), they're pretty damn loud as is.
I'd rather spend my money on real speakers instead of spending a small fortune for my computer.
Ahhhh Infinity, gotta love'em.

ps - tigerdirect sucks, they're scam artists.

logiccomputerhouse, canadacomputers for me
There's a smaller store across the Canadian Tire just west of Dixie on Dundas.
The store is on the north side, sort of hidden, but holy shit their prices are amazing.

Just so you know, volume isn't everything....and more watts while giving you more volume, also gives you better frequency response by being able to drive the woofers etc at lower volumes thereby producing a wider tonal range.

As for "real" speakers, I will put my pc setup against any surround system hi fi 2000, best buy or futureshop sells and I only paid $100.00 for them....
