Going to Washington D.C. this week...any suggestions?

Hey fellow Terbites I'm heading to D.C. this week to see the sites amongst other things. Gonna check out a Nationals(hopefully Strasburg is pitching)and Orioles game. I'll see all of the landmarks but I was curious about Chesapeake Bay. Is there any town there that's worth visiting on Chesapeake Bay besides Annapolis?

Also has anyone been to the Smithsonian and how much time should I allot to it?

Can't help you about Chesapeake Bay but I've been to the Smithsonian and the institute is a collection of seperate museums and each has its own building. You have to decide what you're interested in and then that will determine which ones you see and visit. You should allow at least half a day for one museum but realize you're only going to get to see the major displays and won't have time to see and spend in depth time on everything. To see the entire Smithsonian would take every day, all day for about 2 weeks at least. The ones i liked the best are the following.
1. The aircraft building which houses the original Spirit of St. Louis flown by Lindbergh on the first transatlantic flight.
2. The Entertainment building which has Archie Bunker's chair and Dorothy's ruby red slippers from the Wizard of Oz.
3. Last but not least Nasa! You can see the moon rocks and the actual capsule all burned up on the outside from re-entry into earth's atmosphere. Truly spectacular! Enjoy!

This may sound silly, but take the DC Trolly Tour. Costs about $30 bucks. You can get on and off it all day and goes to all the Monuments and museums plus Arlington. If you just stay on the trolly, it lasts about 3 hours but you get a ton of information.

I have visited DC a couple of times, and have been to the Smithsonian, and you could spend all day seeing the various museums and exhibits within, including the National Museum of Natural History, the Air and Space Museum, and the National Zoo (one of the oldest zoos in the US). I would also recommend visiting the Library of Congress (where you can see the original copy, in glass case, of the US Constitution and Declaration of Independence), a tour of the White House if possible, and if the weather is pleasant, the National Mall, the Vietnam War Memorial, and the Lincoln Memorial.

Watch out that cops in D.C. They will throw you to the ground.. especially at the Jefferson memorial! Enjoy your time

Easton and Cambridge are nice, but there is no reason to drive to the Eastern Shore (unless you really want to see it) if you are going to Annapolis.

You could always go to Port Tobacco (actually on the Potomac River and merely a hamlet, although it was a major place in the 18th century)

It depends upon what interests you, but consider: Arlington National Cemetery and Arlington House, Mount Vernon, taking a bus or driving down "Embassy Row" on Massachusetts Avenue, Anderson House, also the National Cathedral (but suffered earthquake damage and may be closed).

I visited all those sites too but i didn't post about them cuz the OP already said he was going to visit the regular sights and landmarks.

There's the new air and space museum out in Dulles.... rent a bicycle and ride the national mall sites... Arlington by the river has some nice bars/restaurants...
