I haven't seen the original. Film Noir had to have Orson Welles, Humphrey Bogart, Barbera Stanwyck or Robert Mitchum for me to pay attention.
The original is interesting, but not really great.
But there were lots of good ideas in there, and it feels like the kind of thing Guillermo could do a really good job with.

Saw Cry Macho. Tuesday night, first week. Only 2 people in the theater and the parking lot was pretty bare.
It was a very slow paces movie, but lots of growling and grunting so Clint Eastwood is still Clint Eastwood.

Shang Chi became the highest grossing film of the pandemic era - even though it's an uneven film.

The first half of the film was everything I could ask for, the martial arts was fabulous. Simu demonstrating his life's work to the fullest. The second half was strange, almost as if they didn't have faith in Simu, changing format. It was typical Disney CGI bum fluff, they tried to turn the film into Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (no wonder the Chinese hated it), it failed miserably - my WTF moment. Disney shouldn't interfere, Simu has the charisma to become an Oriental Sean Connery.

The films success salves the wound left by the loss of Kim's Convenience. Hong Shing has been around since before Simu was born!

Winning over LA's Koreatown probably won Simu Liu the Marvel role. At the time he started working for Wong Fu, Kim's hadn't been picked up by Netflix America yet.

For some reason I'm more interested in seeing Titane than Dune, the buzz for the later film is huge.

I'll be watching No Time To Die as well, part of it is filmed in a 3000 year old Italian city made entirely of stone.

Oct 1 will gauge the health of the cinema, both Venom 2 and The Many Saints of Newark , will be released this coming Friday.

But the film to watch may be Titane, which is garnering buzz for being batshit insane.

Netflix films cannot match their series record, Mank was a gross disappointment.

Good idea to go back to the dude who initially brought them succesful, can't hurt.

I saw Dune in the theatres decades ago. It was such an abortion of a cancer movie that I will never see another. Never.
A friend of mine is all sex nuts and retard strong for the books and he insists the movie was a bad adaptation but it was so bad that I am not in the slightest bit tempted to watch or read or hell even go to the desert.

Unless they cast Kate Micucci of course.

I could be wrong as to when James Bond does his thing in Matera, it may be the highlight of No Time to Die. Italy's oldest continuously inhabited city.

Maybe they should have waited until spring to release Dune, new management takes over Warner Bros. Currently ATT still has a say in how a film is distributed, their strategy is centered on HBO Max. Dune will be given a limited theater run while demanding a maximum levee on HBOMax at the same time. That means it will probably bleed red ink like The Suicide Squad before it.

As for what started this thread, Tenet is Christopher Nolan's weakest film - he was given more money than he knew what to do with. The concept of bending time was done much better in Inception and even Interstellar. I had no idea what Sissy Vampire was doing in the film, John David Washington was great. The best part of the film was Aaron Taylor Johnson spoofing Tom Hardy - imitation is the highest form of flattery.

The Phenom is being generous to other actresses by being blonde, she's waaay too hot as a redhead. Daniel Craig is getting quite a send off, the latest Bond has compiled $113 million at the global box office. Actually staging part of the film in Basilicata wasn't cheap but it's paying off.

I've never seen Matt Smith before, the great Terence Stamp (The original General Zod) plays him as an older man.

Since they talked about it, I'm going to have to watch The Witch before the Edgar Wright film. The teenaged Phenom, no wonder she doesn't want to go back to Salem.

It's now official, Tom Hardy is the most powerful man in Hollywood.

As executive producer of Venom: Let There be Carnage he brought the film in at under $100 million. It's already made that money back grossing $90 million in its opening weekend - 75 million more than the second place film...Sony and the movie houses must be overjoyed. Compare the cost of Venom 2 to the cost of Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker which came in at $340 million.

Enough about Tomasso, The Drunken Scotsman's review of No Time to Die is here.

Disney thought they had a problem with Scarlett Johansson. Time for cancel culture to fall on its sword.

With Venom 2 surpassing $100 million in four days, Tom Hardy probably took the crew of Havoc out to dinner on his dime.

Gareth Evans is the creator of The Raid films. The film co-stars Jessie Mei Li, Tom Wu, Timothy Olyphant (Justified - Raylan Givens) and the Great Forest Whitaker.

I thoroughly enjoyed Knives Out, great ensemble film.

When Christopher Plummer passed away, Ana de Armas told the story of meeting him for the first time. She was terrified of him and Chris sensed it. Chris being Chris he told her a dirty joke, she guffawed mostly out of surprise. Her anxiety broken, he became human to her. Those opening scenes set up the rest of the film beautifully. They seemed so at ease around each other.

I'll be going back to the theater less frequently if I have access to WB's film-noir library.

Hard to believe Gun Crazy came out in 1950. It's the first attempt of a film made from actual crimes, the second was Natural Born Killers. The film was so shocking for it's time it affected the careers of the actors who played the husband and wife killers.

A romantic moment.

Dune garnered $40 million on the weekend box-office, that's deceptive.

From the audience and critical response, I'm forecasting that it will have legs that will carry it past Valentine's Day. This isn't Star Wars schlock, doing bofo business in the first weekend then forgotten, it's more cerebral than that. With producers being under the gun, Legendary Pictures and Villeneuve Films managed to bring the film in at $165 million...compare that to Star Wars:Rise of Skywalker, as maudlin a film can be, coming in at $285 million. Legendary has already announced that P II will be going into production.

Let one of the Internet's toughest critics say his peace.
