God playing guitar.

The drummer's name was Mitch Mitchell. Noel Redding was the bass player. All original members are deceased.I love 'Hey Joe'!
That drummer recently died. Was that Noel something? I love the way he plays to Fire.
I recall hearing that on the first record (Are You Experienced?) Hendrix didn't like either Redding's or Mitchell's tracks and he played either the bass or drums himself.
It's interesting that he never could read music and this held him back to some extent; he really couldn't play jazz. Had he lived he might have become so much more accomplished and written more complex music. Of course what he left behind is testimony to his genius but it was really just a beginning.
Is this a good time to bring up conspiracy theories about his death? Some say he was killed by the FBI or CIA because of his increasing ties with the Black Panthers...

Yeah, I guess the guy that every gifted player (from Van Halen, to Steve Vai, to Joe Satriani, to Eric Johnson, to David Gilmour, to Jeff Beck) has stated as the best ever rock guitarist, is over-rated. You mean the John Petrucci who is honouring Jimi Hendrix by playing his song in this video? Obviously, even your guitar god knows who to worship. Maybe you should take a hint from him.
Have to agree with you, interestingly he is doing a Hendrix piece in the video. Probably better technically than Hendrix....cleaner at least. It's very difficult for me to seperate the musucian from the music so a "who's the best" always gets confused by their body of recorded work.You can't argue the fact that this guy is Top 3 best guitarist ever:

Petrucci's song writing is far below his guitar playing. With Hendrix both were equal. Petrucci hasn't innovated anything. Heck, he still is behind Van Halen or Malmsteen in that regard since all he does is emulate both to a degree.

When he was alive many said he sounded like Van Halen who was the big cheese at that time. (Eddie was #1 and Randy was #2) Try again. All Rhodes did was be very good with scales, technique and speed. Malmsteen furthered it and he's rated higher than both plyers you've mentioned.

Then you've just shown me that you must be quite young. It was common knowledge on the California/sunset scene in the late 70's early 80's that many (Musicians/fans/guitarists in that scene) considered Eddie the top dog and Rhodes the #2 behind him. It's documented. I personaly would say Rhodes was more versatile through.Rhoads like Edward? I have never that before!
I agree on that but you must admit he took the techniques that Eddie started and furthered them along with bringing new things to the table like sweep picking and string skipping etc. When Malmsteen burst on the scene in the late 80's many guitarists reacted to him like the top dogs of the late 60's did to Hendrix. As of now to me the progression of the guitar gods is this:As far as speed goes .That is all Yngwie is. Speed no substance , no feel.

4. Malmsteen
Morello (On my list because he is the first to advance the sounds can come from the instrument and HOW those sounds were achieved since Hendrix. He has the technique like the Malmsteen's and Vai's etc.. but he's the first to put the END RESULT.. The SOUNDS 'ahead' of those techniques. When he first burst out lame grunge guitarists scratched their collective heads over HOW he got his sounds.)
As you can now see Mr. X this discussion goes beyond guitar technique or influence.
Trower early in his career was asked 'who' influenced him and he said Hendrix. He's regretted it ever since cause people around him figure that if he didn't mention his name he would've been considered just as great. Grunge is shit. Basically anything from 91 to 2000. It started with Nirvana. Lots of bands jumped on the bandwagon at the time but it's long dead and the world is better for it. The guitarists of that era were the lazy saps.
Through many idiot Gunge fans say otherwise, SoundGarden and Alice In Chains were NOT Grunge. They are Metal.
